Job Description:
Position Information
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the incumbent performs skilled mechanical work on gasoline and diesel powered vehicles and equipment, performing a variety of mechanical, preventive maintenance and related work to ensure effective readiness and operation of the County's vehicles including but not limited to autos, pickups, trucks, road maintenance and sewer equipment. Other assignments include servicing and Diagnosing equipment, repairing and mounting tires, modifying and fabricating equipment and parts, welding broken items and maintaining tools and the shop area in a clean and orderly condition.
Required Education and Experience
Associates degree in automotive/diesel technology or related field; and
Two years recent experience as a heavy duty diesel/gasoline mechanic; OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the work.
Essential Job Functions:
Perform Preventative Maintenance the County's vehicles and equipment using the tools required for the job.
Inspect, diagnose and make repairs to OEM specification on all County vehicles and equipment such as; loaders, graders, dozers, compactors, medium and heavy-duty trucks and accessories, light duty trucks, automobiles using the tools required for the job.
Inspect, diagnose and make repairs to Engine, Transmission and Emission systems also air, electric, hydraulic controls and circuits found on County owned vehicles and equipment using the tools required for the job.
Fabrication (plasma cutting, oxygen / acetylene cutting and welding arc welding, mig welding) using the tools required for the job.
