Job Description:
The HIM Technician is responsible for filing medical records, providing reception services for the department, assembling records and performing release of information functions. The Health Information Management Technician is expected to be flexible and take on other duties, as deemed necessary, to support department operations.

Position Details
Full Time
80 hours per pay period (2 weeks)

General Duties
- Maintains all patient chart types.
- Scans documents into the electronic medical record.
- Analyzes charts for deficiencies.
- Ensures correct patient information is in each electronic record/paper chart.
- Scans patient information from internal and external sources into patients' permanent record.
- Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality at all times; employ HIPAA guidelines.
- Answers incoming phone calls.
- Provides excellent customer service; employs AIDET principles.
- Verifies a percentage of scanned documents for accuracy as part of the quality assurance process.
- Maintains deficiency worklists.
- Facilitates communication for off-site Transcriptionists.
- Completes Tasks List within 7 days of date of assignment.

Release of Information
- Verifies that requests for record copies conform with hospital policies and federal HIPAA regulations.
- Copies patients’ charts, burn CDs, or upload records onto flash drives.
- Provides facility departments with patient information, as needed, in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Logs release of information requests into EHR for tracking purposes.
- Bills and collects fees for release of information based on hospital policy.

Chart Assembly
- Assembles, scans, and analyzes patient charts and external documents into the medical record.
- Reviews each chart for completeness, accuracy and compliance to hospital guidelines.
- Recognizes and report discrepancies in patient records to immediate supervisor.

Office Support
- Performs receptionist duties such as the maintenance and stocking of supplies.
- Answers the door and the telephone and respond to customer requests.
- Reports Births to the Department of Health & correct errors with documentation.
- Maintains Death log.
- Gathers paperwork from around the facility for Medical record processing.
- Assists medical staff with questions and issues related to medical records to help them maintain accurate and complete documentation.
- Delivers folders to and from providers with deficiencies or queries each day.
- Prepares charts for audits including information redaction.

Required Qualifications
High School Graduate or equivalent.
General knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office products.
CPR Certified within thirty (30) days of hire and maintained while employed.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in verbal, written, and electronic forms of communication.
Ability to multitask, with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in Health Information, general office, or related environments.
Experience with Meditech 6.1, or other EHR.
