The ideal candidate should be knowledgeable of practices, tools, methods, and equipment used in the machine shop and field equipment maintenance and repair, have a strong aptitude for mechanical and construction theory and practice, work well with others and take direction from others assigned to supervise them. Must have the ability to perform semi-skilled machine work under direct supervision of the Machinist, the ability to gas weld and electric weld steel. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions, read and write English at a level necessary for safe and efficient job execution, be comfortable with working on scaffolding and ladders and down in confined spaces, such as sewer and storm wet wells; this would include entry for work into sewer pipes and valve vaults.
The Ideal candidate must be able to recognize and deal with hazardous situations, lift, and handle heavy equipment and materials, rebuild and repair a variety of mechanical equipment, have skill in the care and use of machine tools, welding tools, and various hand and power construction related tools. The position
responds to emergencies on an on-call basis as required.
Performs semi-skilled work assisting journey-level Machinists in the performance of duties both in the machine shop and field.
One year of experience in a machine shop or performing equipment maintenance and repair.
Six months of experience in a machine shop or performing equipment maintenance and repair; and nine units from an accredited college which include courses related to fabrication, introductory and intermediate machine tool processes, and advanced machine shop mathematics.
