DSHS DVR Rehabilitation Technician 1

The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) has an opportunity for a Rehabilitation Technician to provide paraprofessional and technical support to Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors (VRC) and other professional staff in our office in Tacoma, WA. In this role, you'll provide assistance to VRC professionals who help customers with disabilities to achieve competitive employment.

Some of what you'll do:

Conducts interviews with potential customers to explain VR programs and begins collecting information to be used in eligibility determination
Processes application information
Assists VRC in collecting diagnostic information to be used in determining eligibility
Assists VRC in monitoring customer progress towards achieving the employment goal
Assists VRC and customers in gathering information needed to development of the Individual Plan for Employment, including assistance in contacting and selecting vendors
Schedules appointments for customers to meet with VRC’s, and assists VRC’s in maintaining contact with customers
Registers vendors that provide goods and services to DVR customers. Prepares and processes the Authorization for Purchase (AFP) of customer goods and services OR issues payments for the same
Prepares correspondence to customers, vendors, and others
Maintains electronic and paper case files

What we’re looking for:

Familiarity with the needs and difficulties of people with disabilities
Effective interviewing and presentation skills
Experience using MS Word, Outlook and internet browsers
Record keeping experience
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Highly motivated people with demonstrated observation skills and ability to manage time effectively
A self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team

Who should apply?

Professionals with two years of college-level coursework and one year of experience providing direct services to clients in a non-retail environment.

Additional experience and education will substitute for the required education and experience.

Employees within the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, DSHS, must meet mandatory training requirements specified by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation policy.
