Stationary Engineer 2 - Boiler Operator
The Department of Social and Health Services is looking for on-call Boiler Operators for the overall operation and maintenance of high and low-pressure boilers. We need your mechanical knowledge and experience to operate and maintain high-pressure boilers up to 400 Boiler Horsepower each and maintain the proper operation of auxiliary equipment. Our steam plants support Eastern State Hospital as well as Lakeland Village Habilitation Center.
We are hiring for on-call schedules.

Some of what you'll do
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of 2 high-pressure steam plants consisting of 3 high-pressure boilers and a low-pressure steam plant consisting of 2 low-pressure boilers
Operate one or more high-pressure boilers to maintain constant steam pressure and flow, program/reset electronic/digital controls
Test boiler room equipment for safe operation
Test and chemically treat/clean boiler water, condensate, and mechanical room equipment as necessary
Perform preventative maintenance on boilers
Monitor and adjust pneumatic and electronic variable speed drive controls
Change out and clean oil burner guns, monitor level in fuel oil storage tank, and monitor leak detecting device for fuel oil tank
Shut down malfunctioning equipment or system and transfer to auxiliary equipment or system as required for the safe operation of the plant
Transfer fuel used as necessary and start-up or secure standby equipment for load changes
Rebuild and assist with maintenance needs as necessary to continue safe operations
Who should apply
Professionals who have 3 years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems.
A certificate of completion of an advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college and 2 years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems.
One year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1.
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of combustion principals
Knowledge and ability to light off high-pressure boiler multiple burners, with manually operated equipment, without the use of control devices, parallel them, transfer control to the loops controls, and put the boiler into service
Knowledge and experience in the testing and analysis of feed water for the operation of steam boilers and auxiliary equipment
Knowledge of auto flame parallel positioning linkageless burner management computer control systems
