This position responsibilities include SQL DBA role responsible for managing YVC's data infrastructure. The IT Data Management – Entry oversees and administers data warehousing, ensuring operational readiness (security, health, and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling to support development initiatives and/or business reporting needs. Reporting to the Director - Technology Services, this position will work with developers and other college departments to design, implement, operate, and tune database systems. The candidate must be capable of working independently and collaboratively. Other general responsibilities include SQL performance monitoring, capacity planning, configuring devices, troubleshooting, and participating in the software development process.

Essential Tasks
Coordinate between developers, state resources, and staff at YVC to help build out and maintain existing data storage systems, and reporting services:

Lead specific technical efforts; understand the business problems the measures are intended to address, develop a framework for addressing the issues, assign work to self and others on the team to implement the solutions and communicate status and constraints clearly to leadership
Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the enterprise to develop data specifications, articulate complex technical constraints in plain language, and seek to increase the overall level of data literacy wherever possible
Develop pipelines to make that data available to the analytics environment; in collaboration with analysts, data scientists, and business partners, operationalize and deploy the output of analytics efforts for the benefit of the entire enterprise; manage and direct technical vendors and data suppliers as appropriate
Applies new technology (as applicable): Learns to operate and maintain new technology; assists in transitions.
Database Management:

Build systems that secure and govern our data end to end: control access across multiple storages and access layers (including BI tools), track data quality, catalog datasets, and their lineage, detect duplication audit usage, and ensure correct data semantics
Optimize Data systems for scale, speed, and reliability
Build and evolve the tools that empower colleagues across the company to access data and build reliable and scalable transformations
Support APIs, tools, and 3rd party products to extract data from Cloud/SaaS applications
Work with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to develop a dedicated analytics environment within the broader technical framework
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:

Executing data loads, and performing data modeling to support development initiatives and/or business reporting needs.
SQL performance monitoring, capacity planning, configuring devices, troubleshooting, and participating in the software development process.
ABILITY TO:

Work with minimal guidance in addressing unusual situations.
Display an effective understanding of the job responsibilities, the roles of others within the Technology Services Department and YVC employees, and the strategic goals of YVC.
Contribute to the overall customer satisfaction goals of Technology Services.
Take all reasonable measures to assure and maintain data integrity and security.

Work independently and collaboratively
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to independently move equipment up to 50lbs & move equipment more than 50lbs with the assistance of others.
Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged and considerable amounts of time.
Must be able to routinely reach, stoop, bend, kneel and crouch while performing duties of the position.
Must be able to climb ladders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

AA degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or relevant field, OR one year or more of related technical experience including database/SQL experience.
Direct experience with database administration, advanced query generation, and query optimization
Experience building backend data systems at scale
Comfortable working in multiple layers of the development stack
Must possess a valid driver's license
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong knowledge and experience with a strongly typed, object-oriented, coding language
Deep understanding of data ETL (such as SSIS, Informatica, Scribe, BIML, or others)
Comfortable writing production-quality code in languages such as C# or JavaScript
Ability to uphold best practices in engineering, security, and design
Conceptual knowledge of IT infrastructure and supporting application across the company
Experience working in Higher Education
