WSDOT has an exceptional opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic 3 in Area 2 of South Central Region. This Maintenance Mechanic will provide year-round support to our Area, Region, & Statewide Facilities Program and our Maintenance & Operations program. This position will perform skilled work in more than one trade or craft. This position typically specializes in one trade or craft but perform journey-level and semi-skilled work in a variety of disciplines. This position will perform construction, maintenance, sign installation repair/maintenance, repair and modification of buildings, facilities, mechanical equipment, machinery, and specific apparatus and utilize a working knowledge of several related skill fields such as plumbing, electrical, welding, carpentry, and machinist work. This position supports the mission of the WSDOT by providing necessary roadway maintenance of State Highways, roadsides, infrastructure and right of way. Along with keeping up with facilities and buildings, the incumbent will also be responsible for maintenance and repairs at three (3) Safety Rest Areas

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:
- Perform work independently, prioritizing their workload.
- Preventive and corrective maintenance and corrective maintenance on the facility buildings.
- Repair and remodel buildings.
- Install and maintains plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures; to include pipes, valves, drains basins, faucets, lavatories, air condition, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, gates, and hydrants.
- Develop preliminary cost estimates.
- Read and interpret plans.
- Order supplies.
- Keep detailed records.
- Identify and resolve problems.
- Construct and repair concrete structures; to include pouring concrete, build concrete and wood cribbing.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- High school graduation, possession of a GED certificate or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in Highway Maintenance, Bridge Maintenance, Roadway Construction, or equivalent combination of experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License Class A (CDL), with Endorsement N without air brakes and a current medical card.
- Washington State Traffic Control/Flagging Card with experience performing traffic control per M54-44 or MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels and flagging or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Ability to obtain First Aid Certification within 6 months.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of heavy equipment used for road maintenance.
- Communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. Must have temperament and skills to communicate with the public as a positive representative of WSDOT on a daily basis. Must also be able to communicate and work successfully with coworkers and leadership on a daily basis.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel. Effectively operates computer, iPads, and other electronic equipment for maintenance accountability, timekeeping, project estimates, damage/theft estimates, 3rd Party Damage estimates, and facilities maintenance data/records documentation.
- Regular use of two-way radios and communication headsets, landline telephones, and cellular phones for communication purposes.
- Ability to read warning labels for materials and/or equipment being used in the workplace. Capability to access MSDS information.
- Respond to emergency call out situations from the WSDOT Central Washington TMC in a reasonable time frame, communicating and coordinating on scene with law enforcement, fire departments/medical aid, other local/state/federal agencies, and media.
- Experience providing excellent customer service.
- Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
- Experience leading and/or supervising crews, providing clear direction, and making good decisions under stressful conditions.
- Live within 45 minutes of Selah Shop.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled field.
- Experience as a journey-level worker in building, equipment maintenance, construction, or repair trade.
- Knowledge of state highways, roadsides, and right of ways of the surrounding area.
- Willingness to encourages development.
- Willingness to mentor.
- Understanding of TEF owned Equipment.
