Using engineering drawings, sets up metal components in preparation for welding and performs straightening operations after welding.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- At all times safety is a top priority while performing any part of the job.
- Use fixtures, templates, stops, and guides to set up equipment as required by engineering drawing.
- Operate basic equipment like pneumatic and electrical grinders, acetylene torches, and plasma arc cutters.
- Use layout tools such as squares, levels, straight edges, lines and tape measures to accurately set up metal components for welding.
- Heats, forms, and straightens metal parts, using hand tools, torches, or welding equipment.
- Use weld machines to tack components into place.
- Assist Welders during weld process.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to read blue prints, follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to read measuring tapes and be able to do simple calculations with fractions. Basic MIG and TIG welding abilities preferred but not required. Experience in a metal shop environment and working with hand tools are a plus. Must be able to operate a forklift.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blue prints and procedure manuals. Ability to write short routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, blue print or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. At all times use guards on grinders and a face shield while doing any type of grinding. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jackets unless approved by management. Gloves must be worn at all times while welding. Either all leather shoes or boots must be worn at all times.
