Job Description:
WSDOT is currently seeking to hire an Electrical/Electronic Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Technician to perform skilled senior-level electrical and electronic work on electrical systems throughout the Olympic Region. This position can be designated as lead and is responsible for performing, leading, and directing diagnosis, maintenance, installation, repair, and testing of technical monitoring and control systems. In this role, you will coordinate work and equipment needs with other leads therefore excellent communication skills are paramount. This position is critical in fostering an inclusive and healthy work environment that challenges all staff to be respectful and professional.

What to Expect
This position requires the ability to work alternate and emergency shifts as needed. Therefore, responding to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; scheduled and nonscheduled overtime are also required.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Electronics ITS Technician will:
- Be responsible for electrical, electronics, and communications installations and maintenance.
- Perform senior level preventive maintenance (PM), repairs, and installation.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronics, and communication equipment.
- Test voltages, electrical connections, and grounding.
- Operate electrical construction equipment.
- Remove and replace video cameras, microwaves, radar detection equipment, weather information sensors, antennas, and VMS boards utilizing manlifts, scissor lifts, snorkel lifts, and JLG lifts.
- Construct new or temporary electrical, electronics, and communication equipment infrastructure.
- Perform programming, configurations and firmware on network switches, servers, routers, and roadway radar sensors.
- Review project contract plans and specifications, material submittals.
- Work at heights up to 100 feet in a bucket truck, and/or other lift equipment and at various heights on a ladder and heights of up to 600’ above water on region bridges.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, one of the following are required:
- A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without air brake restriction or a valid driver’s license with ability to obtain Class B CDL within six (6) months of hire. AND
- Completion of two (2) years of satisfactory service as a Transportation Systems Technician C, successful completion of the training for Transportation Systems Technician C, and passing a written and practical examination, incumbent will advance to the Transportation Systems Technician D level. OR
- A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without air brake restriction or a valid driver’s license with ability to obtain Class B CDL within six (6) months of hire. AND
- Six (6) years of experience in the electrical construction industry, or an equivalent Electronics ITS Technician classification in another city, county, or state government. (This experience must be within the ITS devices, communications, and other Traffic monitoring equipment).

In addition to one of the above, the following are also required:
- Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with a wide variety of people, including, staff, peers, vendors, contractors, engineers, etc.
- The ability to work at heights of up to 100 feet in, around, and over live traffic from various man lifts/boom trucks and heights of up to 600 feet above water on Region bridges.
- Experience operating various power and hand tools; and equipment such as man lifts, forklifts, or scissor lifts.
- The ability to manipulate and move up to 50 pounds of equipment and move about unrestricted while climbing stairs/ladders/inclines and uneven terrain.
- The ability to respond to emergency callouts 24 hours a day; 7 days a week.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Possession of Electrical/Electronic Licenses: ME01, EL01, EL02, EL07, CET, or FOSP Certification.
- Associates degree in Electronics.
- Electronics Certification by Washington State CET or International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET).
