Job Description:
WSDOT is seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 based in Spokane to lead a crew of maintenance professionals. This experienced technician will schedule and coordinate the daily activities for the Eastern Region Striping Crew. This individual will also plan, schedule, and perform a variety of highway maintenance duties for snow and ice control, traffic operations, and safety items with maintenance crews. This experienced technician will lead by example and have a personal commitment to safety while coordinating daily work activities of the region-wide striping team.

What to Expect
This position may require occasional out of town stays throughout the Eastern Region to meet business needs.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate the daily activities of the Eastern Region striping crew.
- Operate the main gun control, drive striper truck, oversee traffic control, and operate a truck mounted crane.
- Operate edge line gun on striper, field measure pavement markings, and manage paint and bead inventory.
- Assist in field layout and marking of roadways and in paint and bead gun field repairs and striper clean up.
- Coordinate with the Supervisor and Engineering to avoid construction projects and paint chip seals.
- Act as traffic control lead on emergency operations and assists crews in setting up and performing traffic control during emergency operations; act as a first responder at accident scenes, spills, or other emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate records and reports for personnel, equipment, inventory, and materials.
- Assist with winter maintenance operations including but not limited to operating snowplow trucks and sanders.
- Perform maintenance and minor repair on equipment and hand tools.
- Assist in the safe cleanup and removal of unlawful dwellings.
- Be subject to contingency scheduling, overtime on short notice, and emergency call-outs, and stand-by.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
At least two (2) years’ experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 2 or equivalent experience in highway maintenance.
Commercial Driver License Class A (without restrictions) with endorsement N and without air brakes restriction and Tanker endorsement.
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to report in service to assigned duty station in Spokane, within 45 minutes of an after-hours call.
Possess intermediate computer and tablet skills, with the ability to create reports, send and receive emails, track inventories, etc.
Ability to move and relocate objects weighing up to 50 pounds in a safe manner and safely traverse uneven and steep terrain.
The ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods.
A valid Traffic Control Flagger Card or ability to obtain within 3 months.
First aid certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
The ability to traverse uneven and steep winter terrain adjacent to traffic.
The ability to work at varying height levels up to 25 feet.

Preferred qualification include:
Two years' experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 2 on a WSDOT Striping Crew or the equivalent.
Experience performing traffic control per MUTCD, including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.
