The Operations Section of King County Solid Waste Division is inviting applications for 23 Career Service Truck Driver III positions. These positions will safely haul refuse material from our transfer stations to our landfill in Maple Valley and complete other associated tasks. You can view a list of the transfer stations at: The qualified applicant must have at least 5 years of excellent commercial driving experience and a Class "A" CDL, or have successfully completed the Solid Waste Division's In-House Class "A" CDL Training Program. Competitive Wages:
- A starting wage of $31.1654/hour (Step 2 of range 49) with a top rate of $37.8857/hour (step 10). (These are 2021 rates and may go up after the new labor contract is approved). You can reach the top step within 3.5 years.

Examples of Job Duties:
- Safely operate a variety of vehicles including truck and trailer, truck equipped with water storage tank and pump, dump trucks with pony trailers, fuel tanker trucks, and belly dumps.
- Hook and unhook hydraulic hoses, properly brake in a variety of situations and weather conditions, safely install tire chains.
- Load and transport solid waste, trailers, equipment, gravel, water, fuel, and other materials to work areas throughout King County.
- Perform and document safety inspection of tractors and trailers.
- Check and refill fluid levels and tire pressure; refuel and maintain vehicle in a clean and operational condition.
- Document trip activities and complete required trip reports.

Required Experience and Skills
Ability to:
- Communicate with a diverse range of staff and customers in a pleasant, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.
- Work in a team environment and independently to complete assignments.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience safely driving tractor/trailer, or similar combinations such as, Class A tractor/trailer combinations with three or four axles towing a unit with two or three axles with a gross vehicle weight of a maximum of 17,000 pounds per axle, or successful completion of the Solid Waste Division In-House CDL program.

The Most Competitive Candidates Will Have:
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience driving combinations such as:
- Belly dump trailer, 12 to 14 yard pony trailer.
- 6,000 to 7,000 gallon wastewater tanker.
- 3,000 to 4,000 gallon fuel truck.

Necessary Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver's License
- Possession of a valid Washington State Class A Commercial Driver's License with current Washington State Department of Transportation Medical Card and Air Brake Endorsement
- Successful candidates will be required to provide their Current five (5) year abstract driving record from the Department of Licensing (upon request)
- Successful candidates will be required to complete a reference check, pass a physical examination and undergo drug testing prior to employment. This position is defined as safety-sensitive and once employed, an employee may be required to undergo drug testing as needed.

Working Conditions:
- Union Membership: This position is represented by Teamsters, Local 174.
- Work Schedule: The possible schedules for these positions are: 7/10, Monday thru Sunday, 6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (7 days on, up to 10 hours per day, followed by 7 days off); 7/10, Regular Part-Time, Monday thru Sunday, available from 6 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.; 4/10, Monday thru Friday, one day off not to include the weekend, 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. start; or 5/8, Monday thru Friday, 12:30 p.m. start. Regular Part-Time positions are not guaranteed hours, are scheduled to work as needed to supplement full-time schedules with variable work hours between 5:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. and are required to be available the seven days during the on-shift week.
- Work Location: Cedar Hills Regional Landfill,16645 228th Avenue SE, Maple Valley, WA
- Physical Environment: This job requires you to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions such as high volume noise, dust and heavy traffic.
