WSDOT is currently seeking a journey-level Maintenance Specialist 2 to assist in the maintenance, repair, and installation of highway signage for the Olympic Region (OR) Regionwide (RW) Sign Crews. In this role, the individual will perform inspections of reflectivity and overall sign conditions while utilizing a variety of hand and power tools to maintain signage. The signs provide uniformity, guidance, and safety for all elements of the traveling public including vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic. This position may also assist with Maintenance Operations as seasonal help in delivering the winter operations program and other roadway and roadside activities. What to Expect
This position performs work that is often physical in nature, performed primarily outdoors and often next to high-volume, high-speed traffic. Work performed may be at elevated heights, above 25 feet over land or water, and/or in a confined environment.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Specialist 2 will:
- Assist in assembling, installing, removing/replacing signs, sign components, and signposts, using a variety of equipment and tools.
- Build, maintain, and repair signs, sign supports, pavement markings, and traffic control devices.
- Operate silk-screen, die cutters, applicators and other equipment and hand tools
- Train staff to perform sign maintenance and operations tasks in the event of absences.
- Maintain and submit daily records and reports of maintenance activities.
- Assist Region-wide Traffic Operations Maintenance Crews with maintaining RPM’s, pavement markings, and highway paint lines.
- Assist roadway maintenance crews during winter operations performing snow and ice removal.
- Assist in layout and set-up of traffic control, including setting up signage, manually flagging traffic, and operating attenuator/buffer truck.
- Operate highway equipment, power tools and hand tools. Class A, B, or C equipment for maintenance operations.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, facilities, and hand tools,

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
A high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
One (1) year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 2 OR two (2) years assisting in the fabrication of signs.
A Washington Class A CDL with N endorsement without airbrake restrictions.
A valid Traffic Control/Flagging card with experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging; or obtain Flagger Certification within six (6) months.
A NCCCO Digger Derrick Operator Certification or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
Experience in communicating effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment, and to multiple audiences orally and in writing.
Experience providing outstanding customer service.
Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
Experience in working independently and prioritizing workload, with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
Experience using computers, iPads, and Microsoft Office Products.
The ability to manipulate and transport up to 50 pounds of equipment, tools and debris.
Must be able to report in service to assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
The ability to respond to non-scheduled or call-out emergencies 24 hours a day; 7 days a week including nights, weekends, and holidays.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Understanding of Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) owned equipment.
Two (2) years of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 2 or Bridge Maintenance Technician 2.
Four (4) years assisting in the fabrication of signs.
Possession of a Plans Reading Certification.
Knowledge of the surrounding area.
