WSDOT is looking for multiple enthusiastic career-minded individual who wants to make a difference and join our team in Seattle, supporting the vast transportation infrastructure of Northwest Washington. This non-permanent position will provide traffic control for Northwest Region’s (NWR) Raised Pavement Marking crew. This opportunity is perfect for someone who loves working with their hands, knowing their work is done on roadways and roadsides in a variety of weather. Working in the maintenance area will require responsible, safety-minded individuals to accomplish assigned tasks and may require operating trucks as well as other heavy equipment. By taking on this role, you are serving a key and vital function to the State of Washington.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker 2 will:
- Provide and assist with traffic control operations for NWR Raised Pavement Marking Crew, providing traffic control support for stationary work zones, as well as traffic control support for striping, thermoplastic, and area sign crews.
- Operate impact attenuator truck and pickups for mobile operations and assist crews with loading and unloading of supplies for daily operations.
- Assist with installation of various pavement marking and highway sings.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools to assist with daily operations.
- Maintain hand and power tools and other equipment around the shop and yard.
- Other duties as assigned.

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- High School Diploma or GED,
- Current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A without air brake restrictions.
- One (1) year of experience in highway maintenance, roadway construction, equipment operations, or other relevant construction experience.

In addition to:
- Ability to travel throughout the region frequently for extended periods of time throughout and outside of assigned area to perform work as needed.
- Ability to work nights, work different and/or extended shifts on short notice (days, nights, and weekends), and perform standby duty.
- Ability to lift and transport up to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions including confined spaces, uneven terrain, and next to fast high volume highway traffic.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, and hand and power tools.
- Experience performing traffic control operations per MUTCD, including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.

Important Notes
By issuance of proclamation, the Governor of Washington State mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Compliance with this mandate is a condition of employment with WSDOT. Exemption may be granted for religious or medical purposes; however, accommodations will be subject to approval based on the essential functions required of the position.
The salary listed for this position includes a legislative approved 5% premium for workers in King County.
The official duty station for this position will be determined based on candidate preference and overall business needs.
This is a non-permanent opportunity, expected to last 7 months from April 2022 - October 2022.
