An exciting opportunity exists for an Assistant Welding Engineer to join our Tacoma Foundry. The Assistant Welding Engineer will assist the Welding Engineer in the management of Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQs), the creation of new Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs), and inventory control of welding and materials.

- Administer Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ) – including processing through Non Destructive Testing (NDT)
- Maintain WPQ database(s)
- Maintain Welder Continuity
- Assist with welding procedure qualifications
- Help develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques, and procedures
- Share knowledge of welding procedures and their uses on castings as well as the proper filler metal to be used with a given procedure
- Improve existing or develop new welding process flows
- Compile and maintain welding statistics for performance analysis
- Perform verification checks of welding gas mixers

A qualified candidate will have the following qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 5 years working knowledge (or experience with) in ASME, AWS and/or MIL-STD codes
- Previous experience in the foundry industry preferred
- Basic knowledge of welding metallurgy for iron and steels
- Basic knowledge of trouble shooting and minor repairs of various types and models of welding equipment
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment
- Must be able to withstand hot temperatures
