Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general or minimal supervision, the Machinist Levels 1-3 fabricates parts for production units by blueprint specifications utilizing a variety of hand and major machine tools such as; a drill press, a grinder, deburring equipment, and manual and CNC lathe and mills.

SUMMARY
There are 3 grades in the Machinist classification with each level advancement being inclusive of the prior in the sequence. Preceding advancement to the next grade, team members are required to actively participate in the safety process, have a clean work record clear of any disciplinary actions for 12 months, and have a promotion recommendation by their respective lead and supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manor
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions

Demonstrate proper use of all safety equipment through everyday use and practice
Perform material handling duties (part identification and handling, basic rigging)
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools related to Machinist responsibilities
Perform duties as assigned by lead or supervisor
Attend all required team and company meetings
Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area through continuous 7S efforts

Level 1:
Read and understand basic drawings and schematics
Under direct supervision, perform basic part preparation and machining activities
Ability to work independently with supervision (self-starter/self-motivated)
Assist higher-level Machinist in the machining and fabrication process
Provide input on quality, cost, and production issues
Assist in the detection of defective material by inspecting incoming parts or stock for use in fabricating parts documenting unusual conditions, and report to supervisor
Comprehension of basic machining, tools, and fabrication tasks utilizing common shop standard practices
Develop a basic understanding of lean principals
Cleans, deburrs, and finishes parts to meet shop standards
With mentor, fabricates new and replacement parts for production units utilizing shop machines such as; lathes, mills, grinders and drills
Maintains equipment in safe operating order by performing repairs on minor machine malfunctions and communicates issues to the respective supervisor
Develop a basic understanding of CNC programming
Perform machinist tasks utilizing common machining practices

Level 2:
Independently able to write and edit basic CNC programming
Displays capability to machine complex parts
Use measuring instruments to check for dimensional tolerances according to drawing specifications
Ability to perform general part fixturing, set-up, and troubleshooting
Complete necessary documentation to ensure quality and production requirements
Perform and mentor others on general machinist tasks utilizing common machining practices
Ability to properly lift and rig materials during machining and fabrication
Apply and understand the ECR process (submitting changes for engineering approval)
Actively participate on lean project teams supporting Alliance’s continuous improvement process
Display ability to prioritize and coordinate daily work flow
Coordinate with Lead to support part sales and regular project work

Level 3:
Ability to coordinate multiple assignments, handle increased responsibility, and apply sound judgment within the scope of responsibility as required
Demonstrate proficiency or ability to explain blueprints, part status, part location, and man-hour reporting
Train lower-level Machinist in advanced CNC techniques
Independently able to write and edit advanced CNC programming
Ability to perform advanced part fixturing, set-up, and troubleshooting
Demonstrate advanced understanding of specific machining practices as they relate to all Alliance products
Provide manufacturing input into research and development activities
Assists Field Service, Assembly and Engineering with manufacturing issues, installations, design solutions, and high-level machine operation
Demonstrate advanced proficiency and mentor others on machinist methodology to improve part quality, efficiency, and throughput
Responsible to perform advanced machine maintenance on in house machines and fabrication equipment
Skillset includes mechanical assembly, welding, advanced machining, machine set-up, equipment calibration, and testing
Key resource to work with Assembly and Engineering supporting fixturing and part design

EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent. Military, trade school or community college coursework in hydraulic-mechanical assembly, repair, and troubleshooting desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a high level of physical flexibility, strength, and stamina, including the ability to: see and assess drawings, photos, and written instructions; audibly hear verbal instructions and mechanical signals (forklifts, cranes, machine alarms, etc.); and speak, read, write, and communicate effectively.

To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, an individual must be willing and able to
have full range of body movement: head, neck, shoulders; lift arms overhead; work overhead; reach, lift, push/pull, walk, climb, kneel, bend; good dexterity and range of movement in fingers, hands and wrists.

EMPLOYEE EQUIPMENT
Must be able to provide an assortment of tools in a rollaway toolbox and steel-toed boots.
