The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a senior level mechanic to join the facilities maintenance team in Port Angeles. In this role you will perform skilled work in a variety of trades including mechanical, electrical, and building retrofits and repairs in regionwide buildings. This position will also be responsible for working independently throughout the Olympic Region (OR) sites and buildings, providing the Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) programs of the facilities section, as well as supporting the region’s Facility Planner on specific projects and construction activities.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Maintenance Mechanic will:
- Inspect, test, evaluate and perform preventative maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Inspect, test, evaluate and perform corrective maintenance (repair) on a variety of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Routinely operate a variety of power and hand tools.
- Install and maintain plumbing, electrical, and mechanical fixtures.
- Treat sidewalks, parking lots, and other walkways during freezing and snowy conditions.
- Perform building construction and remodels.
- Troubleshoot systems and perform needs assessments.
- Utilize and operate forklifts, manlifts, portable generators, cutting saws, pick-ups, vans, and sedans, and other related maintenance equipment.
- Organize and maintain stock of materials, tools, and work storage areas.

To be considered for these opportunities, the following are required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled mechanic trade.
- One (1) year of experience as a journey-level worker in building and building equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work (or an equivalent combination or education/experience).
- Experience in communicating effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment, and to multiple audiences, both orally and in writing.
- Experience providing outstanding customer service.
- Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
- Proficiency with computers and basic Microsoft Software operating skills, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- The ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays to respond to non-scheduled call-out emergencies.
- Must be able to report in service to assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
- The ability to safely move, place, and manipulate objects up to 50 pounds.
- A valid driver’s license.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Building Operators Certification (BOC) or equivalency.
- Sub-journey level experience in multiple trades.
