Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking a Bridge Electrician to serve as a lead and perform skilled senior-level electrical and electronic work on electrical systems throughout the Olympic Region. This position will perform, lead, and direct diagnosis, maintenance, installation, repair, and testing of technical monitoring and control systems, ensuring all systems for the Chehalis, Wishkah, Heron, Riverside and Simpson bridges are operating properly. This position is critical in fostering an inclusive and healthy work environment that challenges all staff to be respectful and professional.

What to Expect
This position requires the ability to work alternate and emergency shifts as needed. Therefore, responding to emergency situations in all weather conditions; 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; scheduled and nonscheduled overtime are also required.

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Bridge Electrician will:
- Lead junior staff members and perform senior-level preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, installation, and repair of standby power generation equipment, programmable logic controllers, electronic human-machine interface displays, and electronic motor controllers.
- Performs regular inspection and testing of voltages, electrical connections, and grounding systems.
- Ensure strict adherence to National Electrical Code (NEC) and Washington Administrative Code (WAC) electrical installation standards and specifications.
- Actively participate in site specific job hazard analysis and ensure strict adherence to safety procedures and pre-activity safety plan (PASP) compliance.
- Plan preventive maintenance and repair tasks utilizing a computerized maintenance management program.
- Maintain asset inventory logs, test results, and inspection reports.
- Design and setup traffic control for emergency operations, as well as full road or bridge closures.
- Anticipate, plan, and coordinate daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance tasks.
- Work at heights up to 120 feet in a bucket truck, and/or other lift equipment and at various heights on a ladder.
- Access the bridge to periodically inspect components.
- Operate Class A, B, or C equipment for bridge operations.

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without airbrake restrictions within six (6) months of date of hire.
- Six (6) years of experience in the electrical construction industry, or an equivalent Traffic Signal Technician classification in another city, county, or state government.
- Experience working with programmable logic controllers to include programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working with Hubbell Static Reversing Motor Controllers dating from 1948 to 2008, to include troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair.
- Experience working with high-inertial machinery and braking components.
- Experience interpreting blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of ethernet, fiber optic, coaxial, and microwave communication equipment.
- Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 33 Part 117 Drawbridge Operation Procedures and Part 118 Bridge Lighting and Other Signals.
- The ability to work at heights of up to 120 feet in, around, and over live traffic from various man lifts/boom trucks and heights of up to 600 feet above water on Region bridges.
- The ability to manipulate and move up to 50 pounds of equipment and move about unrestricted while climbing stairs/ladders/inclines and uneven terrain.
- The ability to respond to emergency callouts 24 hours a day; 7 days a week.

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
- Possession of Electrical/Electronic Licenses:
- ME01, EL01, EL02, EL07, CET, and/or FOSP Certification
- Electronics Certification by Washington State CET or International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET).
- An Associate’s Degree in Electronics.
