MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Associates Degree or two years of technical/vocational training in fleet maintenance.
Three years of experience in journey level vehicle maintenance.
Three years of general supervisory (lead) experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as those listed above.

PREFERRED:

Supervisory experience directly supervising union represented employees.
Transit related experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR: KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Qualification to enter this position requires knowledge of the following:

Equipment maintenance principles and practices, including Fleet Management Information Systems.
Principles of supervision and business management principles and techniques.
Methods, tools, equipment, practices, procedures and techniques of preventative maintenance and repair of buses, vans, trucks, automobiles, and mechanical techniques.
Labor and employee relations and contract administration. Conflict resolution, mediation and facilitation.
State and federal regulations regarding health and safety issues in equipment maintenance (e.g. hazardous materials handling, disposal and communications, lock-out/tag-out, respiratory protection); safe practices and proper use of safety equipment.
Parts purchasing and inventory control processes.
Common budgetary practices, and equipment and supply needs management.

Qualification to enter this position requires skill in the following:

Computer operations and software applications including Microsoft office products.
Time management practices. Managing multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively.
Persuasion and working through influence. Anticipating and taking steps to prevent counterproductive confrontations. Managing and resolving conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.
Team leading and team participation and monitoring/assessing performance of others to make improvements and take corrective action.
Decision making – Considering relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one. Analysis, problem solving and troubleshooting.
Fostering an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and leveraged to achieve the vision and mission of the organization. Workforce scheduling.
Developing and analyzing operating and maintenance reports.
Maintaining records and record keeping systems.
Interpreting government rules and regulations.
Reading and understanding blueprints and Operations and Maintenance manuals.
Communication and interpersonal relations as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Collective Bargaining Agreements.
Agency policies, procedures and practices.
Components and systems specific to agency vehicles.

Qualification to fulfill the full range of this position’s duties requires the following skills, which may be gained or further developed after entering the job:

Advanced skill in use of the fleet management information system.

Physical Requirements:

Standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions, and carrying.

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
