Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
WSDOT is currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 in Area 2 of North Central Region. This journey-level position is a member of the regional maintenance organization. Operating a wide variety of highway equipment and tools. This position is responsible for maintenance and repair of highways and highway structures to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce. This position performs a variety of skilled maintenance tasks and leads a crew in the daily maintenance duties.
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will:
Maintenance and repair of guardrail and cable barriers.
Pavement maintenance and repair; apply concrete, asphalt, synthetic materials.
Erosion and slide repair.
Sign maintenance and repair.
Remove litter, dead animals, and debris on state right-of-way.
Maintain roadways to include snow and ice control.
Report daily work activities.
Account for inventory and inventories highway section.
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
Two (2) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, or heavy equipment operation.
Possession of a valid Traffic control/flagging card.
Experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.
Possess a valid Washington State Class A CDL.
By issuance of proclamation, the Governor of Washington State mandates that all employees who work for executive cabinet agencies (which includes the Department of Transportation) must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than October 18, 2021.
