The Samaritan Business Office is seeking a Patient Account Specialist to join their team! In this role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management of hospital patient accounting and effectively functioning in the health care environment for Samaritan Healthcare under the direction of the Patient Financial Services Supervisor. This position is responsible for creating and implementing policies and procedures that allow for timely billing and collection of Accounts Receivable for Samaritan Healthcare.
The Patient Account Specialist reports to the Patient Financial Services Supervisor. This position works closely with the Patient Financial Services staff, medical staff, other hospital staff, patients, patient’s family, and the Healthcare system.
The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategy of Samaritan Healthcare, personifying service and operational excellence. An intuitive understanding of Samaritan’s Team Accountability and Respect System (STARS) is expected, including the creation and maintenance of the best patient, employee, physician, and student experience.
You may be a qualified candidate for this position with the following education and experience:
High school education or equivalent required. Prefer CRCS and Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
Minimum four (4) years billing and/or collection experience in a healthcare setting, hospital preferred.
Affiliate of the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) professional organization seeking resources and education in reimbursement and patient account management.
Must be able to compile statistics, compose letters, coordinate meetings, develop office procedures, establish systems, and interview others.
Must be able to efficiently operate mainframe, calculator, fax machine, microfiche, personal computer, photocopier, and word processor.
Two or more years of electronic billing and Meditech experience with a working knowledge of electronic billing systems and Meditech software.
Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement issues, both government and private.
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, Windows, and Medical Terminology.
Basic Life Support Heartsaver (HS) level to be completed within three (3) months of hire.
Please Note: April 11th through May 10th are time-off blackout dates for training and go-live of our EPIC EMR. Time off will be limited to extenuating circumstances.
This is a Full-Time, Monday through Friday position; 40 hours per week 8am-4:30pm
