Job Description:
Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for the position of Credentials Evaluator 1 in the Student Services - Registration Division. This is a full-time classified position; beginning salary is $2,436 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $3,198, plus a full state benefits package.

Reporting to the Director - Enrollment and Registration Services, the Credentials Evaluator 1 is in support of the Office of Registration & Records and is a customer service focused position. The Credentials Evaluator 1 will practice and follow the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) at all times. The person in this position will have frequent contact with prospective students, parents, staff, faculty, and the general public.

High school graduate or equivalent and
One years of admissions, registrar's or related office experience
OR, equivalent education/experience
An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, social sciences, or business
Bilingual in Spanish
Previous employment in a higher education setting
Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Excellent interpersonal and written communication


HS21+ and SUTC Transfer Credit Evaluations
Receives, processes, evaluates, and approves high school transcripts for HS21+ applicants
Determine timeliness of performing evaluations according to the student's current or pending enrollment status
Assist with unofficial evaluation of HS21+ and Step Up to College (SUTC) transcripts for former or new students
Provide HS21+ course descriptions, distribution information, and transcript evaluations to other institutions upon request
Input HS21+ transfer credits into SMS and Degree Audit
Receive and answer inquiries concerning HS21+ transfer credit articulations
HS21+ Graduation Applications
Receive, process, evaluate, and approve all HS21+ graduation applications
Notify HS21+ graduation applicants of any problems found during graduation evaluation
Prepare HS21+ graduation petitions for review by the Registrar. Compose a response to applicants as determined by the Registrar
Prepare and distribute a HS21+ commencement list for students and staff to review
Keep HS21+ list up-to-date during the academic year and forward to appropriate staff for inclusion in the commencement booklet for publication and distribution at commencement
Process Academic Credit for Prior Learning (PLA) forms for HS21+ students
Grade verification of HS21+ graduation applicants'
Ensure HS21+ degrees are posted in SMS and on the YVC transcript
Annually prepare the HS21+ Graduation Database and keep up to date
Build and run queries in order to provide statistics and the various lists needed to track graduates
Keep records of HS21+ graduation applicants
Email reminders to HS21+ students who have completed more than 16 HS credits but have not yet applied for graduation
Receive, process, evaluate and approve (within one week of receiving) all Associate of Applied Science (AAS) and certificate applications. Review for specific YVC degree requirements, completeness and compliance with guidelines. Use the colleges Degree Audit application to perform evaluations
Notify certificate and AAS degree applicants of any problems found during evaluation within one week of receiving the applications
Prepare graduation petitions for review by each respective dean within the different divisions at YVC. Provide transcripts, placement scores, transfer transcripts and any other necessary documents to assist the dean in his/her decision
The day after grades are posted each quarter begin grade verification of graduation applicant's final quarter classes. Post earned certificates and degrees to student's transcripts
Registration Counter Support
Provide coverage for the Registration & Records Receive and process student registration add/drop forms
Process forms related to the registration and records function. Answer phone calls and emails related to the functions of the Office of Registration & Records as well as college policies and refer individuals to appropriate departments
Assist with other departmental activities necessary to assure student success
Conduct all manners of communication with students/staff in a professional, friendly and caring manner
Use extreme caution in practicing the student privacy act regulations (FERPA). Specifically, the colleges "Release of Directory Information" policy
Assist with other departmental activities necessary to assure student success
Perform other duties as assigned
