Accounts Payable Specialist - Finance - Yakima, WA

Job Description:
General Summary:
The accounts payable specialist processes payables for all PNWU departments in a fast-paced environment with ongoing growth. Supports receivables and other accounting activities of the Finance department. Payables types include, but are not limited to: invoices, statements, credit cards, check requests, travel and expense requests, and other specialized payment batches. The accounts payable specialist reports to the Accounting Manager in the Finance department.

Essential Job Functions:
• Audits all payables and reconciles with required documentation
• Works with vendors and departments to resolve issues
• Accurately processes payables, and distributes to appropriate cost centers and general ledger codes
• Processes checks and electronic funds transfers
• Sets up and maintains vendor files; collects W-9 forms and reconciles transactions for 1099 reporting
• Produces and files annual IRS 1099 forms
• Utilizes knowledge of purchasing, purchase order, and capital equipment purchasing processes; collaborates with PNWU Purchasing department; coordinates purchase order and capital equipment review and tracking processes
• Reconciles and reviews travel and expense reimbursements for accuracy; troubleshoots and solves discrepancies
• Performs month end closing processes for Accounts Payable
• Performs month-end closing processes, including generating reports and accruals; identifies prepaid items, capital purchases and grant purchases
• Maintains a universal vendor filing system
• Provides training and customer service to all PNWU employees on Accounts Payable policies, procedures and forms
• Processes limited accounts receivable, including weekly bank deposits
• Maintains individual and detail summary spreadsheets
• Understands accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adheres to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
• Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU
• Other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
Education:
• Required: High School Diploma or GED
• Preferred: Two years college

Experience:
• Five years of related experience required. Additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
