Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned.
Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with the dealership and factory standards.
Diagnose cause of any malfunction and performs repair on all or some specific makes and models of vehicles, gas and diesel engines, transmission, drive trains and automotive components.
Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
Document and tags parts of the service job under warranty return parts on repair orders.
Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
Communicate with service writer and service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order, including an accurate and legible customer complaint, cause and correction as needed.
Provide a complete and accurate written cost estimate for labor and parts.
Returns repair orders to the service writer at the end of the customer service.
Contact vehicle manufacturer to establish and assist in the diagnoses of unusual problems, after consulting with the shop foreman.
Test-drive customer vehicles before and after service work to test the service issues.
Attend training and certification classes to maintain knowledge of automotive repair on makes and models of incoming and outgoing vehicles.
Keep updated on changes regarding warranty and factory recalls.
Report defects to the shop foreman other service techs and the service advisor as needed.
Keep detailed records of dealership owned tools and manuals. Handles tools in manner of care.
Keep up to date of changes in Federal, State, OSHA and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA right to know requirements.
Participate in safety training and management and reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
Maintain high customer service standards.
Handle and uses various tools and equipment safely.
Keep work area clean and neat.
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid driver's license
High school diploma or GED; or two to four years of related experience in automotive mechanics, testing, and diagnoses and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Associates Degree and/or ASE Certification from a two-year college or technical school.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and/or small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions or situations. Ability to deal with problems involving actual work or co-workers.
