Washington State Ferries (WSF), division of Washington State Department of Transportation, is actively seeking experienced machinists to work in our facility at Eagle Harbor on Bainbridge Island. You will perform skilled machinist work on the many terminals and vessels that make up the Washington State Ferry System so trips to various job sites are required. To be successful in this position you will need strong experience maintaining and repairing marine vessels with a focus on marine propulsion engines (including EMD, GE, Cummins, Cat and Detroit). You will also need to be very adaptable and willing to work within a highly active team. Your work will help maintain a vital fleet that provides a dynamic transportation system that helps serve the livelihood of the Puget Sound communities.
The Eagle Harbor machine shop is looking to fill two permanent positions and one nonpermanent position anticipated to last for 90 days.
The Eagle Harbor facility is located within walking distance of the WSF ferry terminal.
The ferry system is represented by uniquely skilled maintenance team which supports the largest ferry system in the United States. Serving eight counties within Washington and the Province of British Columbia in Canada the system has 10 routes and 20 terminals that are served by 22 vessels and approximately 1,800 fantastic employees

This position will perform the following work:
Troubleshoot, repair, and overhaul marine propulsion engines, reduction gears, steering systems, generators, outboard motors, pumps, boat davits, and other miscellaneous auxiliary machinery.
Precision alignment of pumps with dial indicator and laser alignment tooling.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems.
Respond to equipment failures around the clock to sustain service reliability.
Machine Shop work including operation of lathes, milling machines, drills, and other common shop equipment.
Maintenance of terminal equipment including winches and hydraulic systems.
Organize and inventory shop tooling, consumables and various parts as needed.
Other duties as required.
An ideal candidate for this position will have:
Journey-level status as a machinist or completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a machinist.
Experience with maintenance of marine vessels and propulsion systems.
Knowledge and experience operating basic office equipment and applications.
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or better (preferred).
Ability to work at different job sites.
Candidates for this position must have a valid driver's license and possess, or be able to acquire a Transportation Worker's Identification Credential (TWIC, www.tsa.gov/twic) within 90 days of their hire date.
