The Opportunity:
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is in search of an Information Technology Specialist 5 – Desktop Support to join the South Central Region (SCR) Information Technology Division (ITD) Field Services team located in Union Gap, WA. The South Central ITD Field Services team functions as the central support group for all technology related equipment issues for nearly 650 employees across 27 sites through the South Central Regions' 9 counties.

The Information Technology Specialist 5 software administrator is responsible for asset management and administration of services to ensure WSDOT staff can effectively and efficiently complete work activities. The incumbent to this position serves as the application administrator for SCR and provides desktop support for computer hardware, software, and mobile devices by applying expert technical knowledge to independently identify and resolve complex technical issues. The Information Technology Specialist 5 ensures reliable access to data, applications, servers, and voice communications for employees, partner agencies, and public customers in a 24/7 environment.

This position will perform the following:
Administer the deployment of computer operating systems, computer resources, and software applications across the South Central Region.
Independently diagnose, test, administer, troubleshoot, resolve, and maintain hardware and software issues for the regional service area as the technical expert and escalation point of contact.
Administer accounts and perform troubleshooting duties as a backup Exchange administrator.
Plan, coordinate, and assist with testing, installation, and repair of complex networked infrastructure, production IT hardware, application software, and telecommunications systems that enable region critical business functions to operate efficiently.
Install and configure anti-virus software and monthly security patches to ensure workstation infrastructure is secure from potential malware, viruses, and other vulnerabilities.
Track and monitor IT inventory by assigning assets to individual users and business organizations; and audit purchases software for compliance with license agreements.
Coordinate with ITD Field Services and Workstation Administrators around the department to design, develop, and maintain the agency standard operating system and core software configuration.
Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to ensure smooth and reliable delivery of software and operating systems to fulfil business objectives, processes, and continuity.
Provide training, advice, and guidance to technical and non-technical users in the use of software, hardware, and peripheral devices.
Plan and lead large scale hardware and software deployment projects by determining key milestones, action items, and deliverables within project budget and timeline.
Research current technology and process reviews.
Write technical papers and instructional materials based on findings for employees and staff.
Conduct telephone interviews to extract essential elements from client to create symptomology of computing environment status when clients may not have a clear understanding of issue or cause.
Prioritize, schedule, monitor, and delegate work assignments to subordinate staff; mentoring and developing staff as needed to ensure accurate, effective, and efficient performance of responsibilities.
Serve as voting member on WSDOT's Workstation Administrators Group (WAG).
Operate a motor vehicle and travel region-wide with overnight stays to attend meetings, trainings, and conferences; as well as, periodic site visits.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications for this position are:
Minimum five (5) years' experience of full-time IT professional experience as an escalation point for desktop support (education may be substituted work experience).
Experience effectively communicating and providing assistance to a diverse set of Information Technology users and peers.
Experience providing information technology project management, technical consultation, systems administration, and performing installation of IT hardware and software.
Demonstrated knowledge of server, networking, personal computers (PC), peripherals, hardware, software, architecture, environment, infrastructure, and operational theory.
Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft operating systems, Office Suite, and standard Adobe products.
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to a height of 3-4 feet.
The ability to climb ladders, work at varying height levels, and in confined spaces; bending, twisting, and stooping.
Ability to work independently, identify, and solve complex problems.
The ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time in varied environments, vehicles, and equipment.
The ability to travel to various sites across the state with overnight stays.
Effective communication skills with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods.
Valid driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred qualifications, skills, and experience:
COMP TIA A+ Certification
