Location: Ferndale Family Medical Center
Position: Site Biller/Coder, Full-time, non-exempt (hourly)
Job Summary
Responsibilities include timely completion of charge slips and deposits, as well as answering patient billing questions while adhering to company policies and standards. Actual duties are site specific, and may include some or all of the duties listed below.
Essential Functions: This position is responsible for entering the demographic and insurance information into practice management system. We are looking for an employee who can:
Communicate effectively
Provide excellent customer service
Reconcile daily charge slips (passports) with EMR billing orders.
Submit billing orders for out of office charges.
Screen EMR billing orders for correct charges, diagnosis codes, modifiers and other pertinent information for submission to the Patient Accounts Department (PAD).
Audit charts for coding accuracy when needed or alert PAD.
Look at schedule for next day to identify collection issues.
Respond to requests from credit manager in a timely manner.
Discuss payment arrangements with patients when needed.
Scan payment arrangements into practice management system.
Handle patient questions about their account in phone and in person.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of a medical office practice.
Maintains competency in the EMR and Practice Management (PM) systems.
Establish good employee relations including conflict resolution.
Intermediate computer skills - use of computer applications for Health Information systems, word processing, EMR, and spreadsheets.
Discern and maintains confidentiality, in compliance with applicable State & Federal laws (i.e. HIPAA).
Works as part of a team; model a positive work ethic and customer friendly relations.
Prioritize and multitask detailed projects with frequent interruptions.
Solve problems issues and concerns in a professional manner.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency working with MS Word, Excel, and Databases.
Comprehend and communicate information accurately and clearly (verbally and in writing, in person and via phone) with patients, all levels of personnel, and other individuals and groups.
Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and listen attentively. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Immunization Requirements: All FCN employees must adhere to the company immunization policy. Immunizations required: influenza, Tdap, MMR, varicella or a verified history of chicken pox disease, PPD and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Family Care Network will cover the cost of required immunizations for Family Care Network employees; immunizations will be administered by FCN staff. Hepatitis B is strongly recommended.
