Job Description:

CHI Franciscan Rehabilitation Hospital o pened the doors of this new 60-bed physical rehab hospital in May 2018 to serve patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal-cord injuries, amputations, complex orthopedic injuries, and other conditions. The hospital is a joint venture partnership between CHI Franciscan Health and Kindred Healthcare.

We are seeking a full-time Medical Coder who will be responsible for:

Coding inpatient rehab hospital patients' records using current ICD coding version within established time frame
Working closely with the hospital's PPS Coordinator in assignment the Impairment Code for admissions
Transmitting information for Medicare patients
Assists in establishing and maintaining procedures for collecting, coding, abstracting, filing and retrieving medical records
Working with physicians to ensure records are completed within required time frame
Guiding nursing staff in keeping records neat and orderly during the patient's hospital stay
At discharge, processing records within time frames for assembly, analysis, coding and abstracting
Reviewing and processing requests for patient information

Graduate of an accredited program for Health Information Management

RHIT (or eligible) or RHIA (or eligible) or Coding Certification by AHIMA
Two or more years of medical coding, ideally in a hospital setting is preferred

Strong critical thinking skills and a high level of attention to detail
Effective oral and written communications skills

Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to consistently meet deadlines
