There is one opening with the Yakima County District Court for a Financial Specialist. This position performs specialized accounting support activities involving purchasing, receiving, reviewing, processing, monitoring and auditing of a variety of documents, deposits, payments, grant applications, contracts or collections. This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing date of this posting .

Compiles and prepares monthly payroll. Reconciles leave balances, prepares and disseminates monthly leave balance reports for review by supervisors. Responds to questions from staff regarding payroll, leave balances, timesheet and leave documentation.
Reviews billings for accuracy, assigns appropriate program codes according to contracts, grants and/or budgetary guidelines; processes accounts payable and receivable; processes changes or corrections as necessary. Tracks and analyzes account activity for policy, grant, contract, and/or expenditure limit compliance according to internal controls set at higher level. Verifies receipt of all professional services documentation on billings; verifies that billings comply with memorandums of agreement and state/federal guidelines for contracted services; applies or verifies job cost codes to complex invoices or those which require interdepartmental communication to resolve issues. Corrects errors/re-runs batches when returned from Auditor’s Office and obtains appropriate auditing officer signatures.
Audits and approves accounts receivable adjustments, and creates/adjusts for financial accuracy. Deposits, tracks and monitors Probation daily revenue. Audits credit card receipts. Audit probation hand receipts. Analyzes historical information gathered and prepares summary reports to assist professionals in financial forecasting.
Researches vendor sources for supplies and equipment using countywide and departmental policies and procedures; prepares purchase orders and requisitions; assigns appropriate funding codes and verifies funding is available; monitors expenditure and replacement budgets and regularly notifies managers of budget balances; makes travel arrangements; prepares expense vouchers.
Maintains and updates inventory for Probation Services supplies, equipment, software, furniture, etc. and coordinates with public works, technology services and other county departments for equipment replacement and/or surplus efforts;
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Experience and Training:
High School Diploma or GED plus three (3) years of general accounting support or related experience, including six months in area of specialty; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation.

This is a Yakima County Courthouse AFSCME 87 Master Contract Bargaining Unit position. As a condition of employment, you are required to become a member of the Unit or pay representation fees per the negotiated contract.
Background Investigation: Applicants selected for final interviews may be required to complete a criminal history disclosure statement. The final applicant will be hired subject to results of a criminal history background investigation, which may include fingerprinting.
Equipment Operated: Computer, adding machine, printer, copier, fax, multiple line telephone, AOC printer and other common office equipment.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Duties are performed in an office setting and may involve exposure to potentially violent, hostile individuals with personal problems (domestic violence or health issues) that could cause behavioral outbursts; confidentially is a requirement. Positions in the class typically require: stooping, kneeling,crouching, reaching, mobility, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting, most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
