Operate various machine tools common to manual machining in a Job Shop. Perform repair work, one-off and short run multiple machining tasks.
•Operate vertical and horizontal mills, vertical and horizontal lathes, drill press, belt sanders, surface grinders, saws, etc. Works with various materials such as plastics, mild steel, alloys, aluminum, bronze, stainless steels, etc.
•Use measuring devices such as micrometers and calipers with techniques to correctly assure proper sizing.
•Record all data necessary to produce expected service and/or design results, including sizing and illustrations.
•Read and comprehend drawings and procedures.
•Differentiate critical and non-critical dimensions and tolerances (when not called out on a print).
•Set-up and monitor feeds and speeds for maximized cutting performance and tool life.
•Must be capable of holding .0005" machining tolerances.
•Understand materials and applications as required.
•Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools, including, but not limited to: band saws, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
•Keep work area neat and clean.
•Assist other machinists in department with skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor or shop management.
Must possess at least five (5) years of previous work experience as a machinist, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Driving Abstract to be submitted with application for employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and tools used in machining. Knowledge of milling and turning, proficiency in reading and comprehending drawings and procedures. Ability to be a self-starter and self-motivated. Problem solving and communication skills. A team player that is able to work well with coworkers and leads by example.
To perform the essential functions of the job, a Manual Machinist must be able to perform the following:
Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, climbing, crawling, walking, pulling, lifting, fine motor dexterity, grasping, and seeing/observing; ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to work outdoors under adverse and varied weather conditions.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
