Set up, operates, or tends milling machines to mill, shape, groove, or profile metal work pieces. Perform complex series of progressive machining operations on diversified work to close tolerances. Read blueprints, drawings and diagrams to ensure customer specifications are met. Perform machine programming and train lower grade employees.
POSITION DUTIES & TASKS
Machine Tasks (70%)
•Remove work pieces from machines, and check to ensure that they conform to specifications, using measuring instruments such as microscopes, gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
•Observe milling machine operation and adjust controls to ensure conformance with specified tolerances.
•Work independently with little or no assistance
•Edit and Setup the CNC Mills machines
•Position and secure work pieces on machines, using holding devices, measuring instruments and hand tools.
•Study blueprints, layouts, sketches, or work orders to assess work piece specifications and to determine tooling instructions, tools and materials needed, and sequences of operations.
•Move controls to set cutting specifications, to position cutting tools and work pieces in relation to each other, and to start machines.
•Verify alignment of work pieces on machines, using measuring instruments such as rules, gauges, or calipers.
•Move cutters or material manually or by turning hand wheels, or engage automatic feeding mechanisms to mill work pieces to specifications.
•Replace worn tools using hand tools.
•Participate in process improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
•Perform quality control and inspection procedures within the department
•Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
•Follow all safety rules and regulations
•Be a role model, coach and trainer for new associates to foster a team environment.
Other Duties as Required (5%)
Work Setting, including hazards:
•Working inside manufacturing environment 95% and outside 5%.
•Environment conforms to outside temperature.
•Noise and vibration.
•Proximity to moving mechanical parts.
Schedule (i.e. hours and days):
•Weekend shift is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
•Hours from 5:00am - 5:30pm.
•Must be able to sit, stand and walk up to 12 hours a day.
•Must be able to lift, carry up to 25 lbs.
•Must be able to kneel, crawl, squat, twist and turn.
•Must be able to reach out and overhead.
•Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
◦4 years + experience as a CNC Mills operator.
◦Knowledgeable in reading and understanding blueprints, drawings, and customer specifications.
◦Experience with tight tolerances.
