The Role

This position is responsible for supervising, planning and directing the day-to-day operation of the plant utilities including boilers, steam systems and refrigeration, with respect to equipment, and facility. The Boiler/Refrigeration Team lead assumes overall responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration, boilers, air handling, climate control and other support areas as assigned. Leads activities of workers engaged in repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment. Provides technical and problem solving support for the plant and maintenance crews. Supports and executes plant specific maintenance strategies to achieve Plant's key performance goals for overall maintenance performance. Assures production schedules are met and all issues are resolved and communicated in a timely fashion. Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards. Reviews production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and modify maintenance activities. This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and works in tandem with maintenance supervisors.

Key Accountabilities
•Maintain a safe and productive work environment to meet facility and process requirements.
•Supervises boiler steam, climate, air and refrigeration systems and directs the team in insuring day-to-day operations for safety, production, cost, quality as required to meet facility goals
•Identify employee development needs and coordinate appropriate training programs to ensure that maintenance personnel attain and retain the skills and technical information necessary to maintain and support equipment for long term optimal performance.
•Comprehensive understanding and ability to lead and direct employees in PSM system
•Comprehensive understanding of refrigeration systems and steam systems.
•Develop and manage procedures for boilers, refrigeration and other maintenance/facilities projects within the plants CMMS.
•Utilization of the computerized maintenance management system to document, analyze, and manage the equipment preventative maintenance process.
•Responsible to eliminate all causes of failure and ensure full useful life in coordination with daily maintenance completed by operating personnel.
•Maintain plant air system
•Responsible for area budget
•Proactively address issues concerning refrigeration units or systems and maintain systems in accordance with company HACCP, OSHA, and EPA guidelines.
•Direct boiler and refrigeration maintenance effort to ensure that mechanical downtime is kept to a minimum and maintain ammonia systems to IIAR standards.
•Maintain an EPA Opacity Certificate.
•Manage outside contractors on projects.
•Other job duties as required

Skills & Experience
•BS Degree in Engineering, food science, or related field, or job experience equivalent
•3 - 5 years Production Processing, Maintenance, Engineering or Supervisory experience.
•Knowledge of refrigeration systems and function components.
•Extensive knowledge and understanding of OSHA’s Process Safety Management program and requirements.
•Thorough knowledge of refrigeration theory, cycle and operation.
•Thorough knowledge of Boilers and Steam Systems
•Thorough knowledge of Air systems
•Knowledge of equipment, proper operation, and familiarity with the manufacturer’s Preventative Maintenance requirements for the equipment.
