Job Description:
Yakima Valley College seeks an innovative and collaborative Bilingual Program Assistant in the Workforce Education Division - Dental Hygiene Program , who is committed to community college students and their success. This is a cyclic, working 11 - months, full-time classified position, with Leave Without Pay (LWOP) usually mid-July 16 - July 31 and mid-December 16 - December 31 of each year. Beginning salary is $2,480 per month for 40 hours per week, with periodic increments up to $2,920, plus a full state benefits package.

Reporting to the Director – Workforce Education, the Bilingual Program Assistant in the Dental Hygiene Program will independently perform work requiring knowledge and experience specific to technical and professional programs. The Bilingual Program Assistant will organize and perform work specifically to program operations independent of the daily administrative office needs. Represent the program by establishing positive relationships with all constituents. The program assistant will perform specialized technical/clerical duties in support of program activity including the Dental Hygiene Clinic. Work under guidance of the Dental Hygiene Coordinator and as a team member collaborate with the department faculty, staff and administrators; and perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, we are seeking a candidate who demonstrates a strong promise as a contributing member of the Workforce Education Division.

Duties are performed in an office environment. Long periods of computer work may be necessary to complete assignments. Occasional lilting of items up to 25 lbs. may be required.

•High school diploma or equivalent
•Two years of full-time clerical experience OR
Equivalent education/experience
3. Bilingual and biliterate in English/Spanish PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•An earned Associate or Bachelor's degree
•Reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license HIPAA training and experience with management of confidential patient healthcare information
•Experience with working collaboratively with multiple agencies and multicultural groups
•Proficient use of Microsoft applications (such as Office spreadsheet and database software) and demonstrated ability to learn additional software applications
•Effective interpersonal skills in dealing with staff, students, and the general public
•Ability to concentrate for extended periods of time, work with interruptions, and multitask
•Ability to approach work methodically and collaboratively
•Ability to communicate knowledge and skills in both oral and written forms to students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds
•Ability to remember details, accurately keep records, and recognize errors
•Ability to keyboard with normal speed, requiring sitting, hand and arm movements for extended periods of time
•Good judgments in making decisions in accordance with regulations and established policies and procedures

•Accurately maintain and monitor budgets and reconcile budget with Budget status reports
•Obtain Budget Status Reports monthly to balance accounts
•Take direction from the Fiscal Specialist, with regard to budgets assigned to program
•Prepare budget requests for department head approval and provide advice and information
•Review income/expense, statistical, and budget status reports and communicate with department heads of financial status of programs and of problem areas
•Authorize budget requests and revisions; analyze problem areas and recommend and take corrective action for budget revision and requisitions
•Make and record deposits DH cashier deposits within the institution
•Manage the funds collected from patients; record, reconcile and report payments using the patient database
Public Relations: •Maintain positive relationships with the public, students, faculty, staff, and administrators
•Represent assigned program(s) accurately and positively to all constituents
•Serve as a program liaison to other college departments, committees, and outside agencies
•Coordinate with Community Relations Office regarding activities perform engaging the community
•Compose correspondence, printed materials, and/or news releases related to program policies, procedures and operations
Office Operations (Typical Work): Programs •Translation services provided for dental hygiene patients
•Primary contact with program participants
•Provide information regarding program policies
•Edit material for accuracy and appearance, readability and style
•Interpret statistical data, historical activity reports and other materials within the DH department Coordinate program activities including but not limited to arranging and providing notices for meetings, conferences or other activities for the Dental Hygiene program
•Establish and maintain records and files; record statistical information
•Collaborate with the Purchasing department on orders using the internal process of the Procure program, receive and maintain an inventory specific to the Dental Hygiene programs
•Direct the work of quarterly work-study students for the Dental Hygiene program
•Maintain web site for the Dental Hygiene program
•Work with Excel spreadsheets, Access database, Publisher, download and interpret data
•Serve as the SMS class scheduling assistant for the Dental Hygiene program
•Responsible for program course coding for distance learning
•Schedule meetings and appointments department faculty and/or presenters
•Perform related duties as required and assigned
