The System Administrator position, under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology will follow established Heritage Department of Information Technology methods, policies and protocols to provide enterprise wide installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and technical support of servers, applications, backups, network infrastructure, network storage and instructional technologies.
This position consults with users, peers and supervision, troubleshoots equipment, responds to requests for service and resolves technical problems. The System Administrator is also responsible for coordinating, documenting and executing hardware and software installations, system moves and changes.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Utilizing best practice methodologies within the framework of departmental policies and procedures as established by the Chief Information Officer, this position will:
•Represents Heritage University in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and other customers of our services, learns and uses operating practices of the department and Heritage University.
•Upholds the Heritage University Mission Statement.
•Handles confidential information with tact, discretion and in compliance with FERPA regulations.
•Configure and monitor enterprise data backups and perform data recovery as needed.
•Configure and maintain windows physical and virtual servers. Ensures high system availability and the maximum levels of performance of mission critical systems.
•Install and maintain server hardware, operating systems, application based services, network data switching and routing equipment, software, firmware, and upgrades.
•Perform routine maintenance and patching of server based systems. Scheduled maintenance is performed outside of normal business hours.
•Monitor, review system logs, analyze server and systems performance and report security and operational status daily.
•Research new technologies and standards. Make recommendations for upgrades and new systems.
•Maintain complete and up to date documentation of all actions in support of new and existing systems, applications, security and maintenance and support efforts.
•Monitor, configure and maintain the enterprise firewalls, routers and switches. Support software and hardware based VPN connections.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned.
•The position may share on-call status. Some weekend or evening work may be required on special occasions
•Work with contractors/venders as needed.
Qualifications and Skills:
A High School diploma or GED is required. Associates Degree or greater, MCSA, MCITP certification or equivalent certification strongly preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in the support of servers and network technologies in a business or educational setting is required. Strong knowledge of the deployment and support of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, Microsoft Exchange, WSUS, Enterprise Antivirus, System Center, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, GPO, ADFS 3.0, NAS, Enterprise Data Backup, switches, routers, packet shaper, and firewalls. Experience applying Service Packs, patches, firmware and software updates to various equipment types including servers and network equipment. Strong technical background in troubleshooting complex problems. Strong written and oral skills; the ability to effectively communicate technical issues to end users in an understandable, patient and digestible manner. An advanced working knowledge of TCP/IP, local and wide area networking practices.
Ability to successfully troubleshoot and repair technical issues. Follow detailed and technical instructions to the letter and to work with supervision and peers. Excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated proficiency in the installation, configuration, deployment and detail-oriented problem solving and remediation of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems. Ability to read and understand troubleshooting manuals and texts. Able to develop and maintain professional collaborative relationships with institutional staff, co-workers and students. Excellent time management, organization and documentation skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Fluency in the English language is required.
Work involves driving, walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, small tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms and the ability use of computer keyboard and mouse for long durations. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, the ability to utilize and read from a desktop computer monitor for long periods. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
