This position is responsible for the installation and repair of existing electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment by performing any combination of tasks. Receives written work orders are verbal instructions (directly or indirectly) from the Director, Facilities Management. In addition, this position performs semi-skilled and sub journey work in performance of building maintenance for a variety of function to include plumbing, carpentry, welding, painting and machinist work. This position inspects, repair, install and maintain physical facilities, locks and maintain and repair machinery and equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•Gathers tools and supplies to be used at the worksite according to instructions.
•Measures, cuts, and bends wire and conduit, using ruler and hand tools. Drills holes for wiring, using power drill and pull or pushes wiring through openings.
•Traces out short circuits in wiring, using knowledge of wiring and test equipment.
•Lifts, positions, and fastens objects, such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
•Performs minor repairs, such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches, using hand tools.
•Maintains tools and equipment and keeps supplies and parts in order.
•Disassembles defective electrical equipment, replaces defective or worn parts, and reassembles equipment using hand tools.
•Reports observed maintenance needs to the Director, Facilities Management. Makes log entries required in the preventative maintenance logs.
•Responsible for cleanup and restoration of worksites.
•Must understand Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) information.
•Must wear appropriate safety gear/apparel as directed and abide by the University, State (WISHA), Federal (OSHA) Safety Policies and Procedures.
•Installs, replaces, or adjusts filters, light bulbs, ribbons, belts, or similar objects.
•Uses graphic instructions, such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
•Cleans equipment using appropriate materials.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
•Uses common hand tools, such as hammer, saw, screwdriver or similar tools.
•Operates power driven machinery such as jack hammer, tamper, or other similar sized equipment.
•Must be capable of working in a stressful work environment.
•Must be able to report to work on time according to a schedule.
•Must be capable of working and communicating effectively with co-workers.
•Must be supportive of a Catholic, Benedictine philosophy of education.
•Two years of training in the electrical trades field.
•Three years of on the job electrical experience desired.
•Familiarity with electrical codes is a plus.
•Possession of a valid standard Driver’s License.
•Successfully pass a criminal background check.
