Summary: Hopelink is hiring an Automotive Service Technician who is driven and brings a strong work ethic to the team! This position will perform extensive work in the diagnosis, repair and service of automobiles, medium size trucks, buses and related equipment such as hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel engines. This role is also responsible for preventive maintenance inspections and related repairs. This role requires the candidate to obtain their CDL class C within 180 days of hire and pass a DOT medical exam. Training for CDL class C will be provided at no cost to employee. Applicants with a valid Washington State driver's license will be considered.

Essential Functions: * Diagnose and repair tires, cooling, electrical, brakes (including ABS), steering, air intake systems, fuel injection systems, suspension systems, and electronic components. * Diagnose, maintain and repair wheel chair lifts, lift gates, and other related systems. * Repair and replace interior systems and components. * Install and/or remove specialized equipment to meet department's specific needs. * Operate standard shop equipment including: computerized wheel balancer, parts washer, various hydraulic service lifts, jacks, jack stands, presses, overhead fluid dispensers, and various hand tools. * Repair and maintain shop equipment. Clean shop floors, benches and equipment when needed. * Properly use chemicals and solvents and understand hazardous material communications, wastewater standards, fluid recovery, and disposal rules. * Utilize various shop manuals, users' guides, and schematics. * Maintain service, maintenance, repair and other related records in a computer database information management system. * Read and interpret various manufacturer wiring diagrams, electrical schematics and similar drawings. * Identify parts and components needed and, using proper nomenclature, complete written parts requests. * Make service calls to rescue and repair disabled vehicles. * Provide technical assistance to non-automotive service personnel. * Dispense fuel, wash and vacuum vehicles when needed. * Provide daily, weekly, monthly reporting information to all Transportation staff members when needed. * Perform safety inspections on Hopelink vehicles. * Fully operate all types of Hopelink vehicles. Transport vehicles to dealers and other service vendors. * Communicate respectfully with people of all cultures, languages, ages, genders, gender preferences, races, physical abilities, ethnic backgrounds, and religions. * Maintains a professional and positive working relationship with clients, vendors, volunteers, donors, and fellow staff and adheres to the Hopelink and King County Metro Standards of Conduct. * Practices and achieves Hopelink's Core Competencies in order to support Hopelink's overall strategy, team goals and individual goals. * Regular attendance and punctuality is essential to our business and to this position.

Required Qualifications:
•A minimum of 2-3 years professional experience working in an automotive maintenance shop performing maintenance tasks equivalent to those defined for this position. * Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude. Demonstrated ability to continue education and training in automotive repair technology independently and as provided and directed by employer. * Computer or data entry experience.
•This position is a Service Critical Employee with specific attendance requirements. More information is available in the Hopelink Adverse Weather Policy. Employee must report to work site during their scheduled hours, regardless of weather conditions or other emergencies. Manage own transportation needs in adverse weather, including possible limitations to public transportation options. Have a specific plan to address any other possible attendance barriers that arise during adverse weather and other emergencies, such as disrupted utilities or public services, road closures, school closures.

Preferred Qualifications:

ASE Automotive Brake Certification and or an equivalent certification from a recognized and approved equal. * Working knowledge of small transit or school bus systems a plus.

Licenses, Certificates and other requirements: * Must pass criminal background check through the Washington State Patrol. * Valid Washington State Driver's License. * Reliable personal transportation. * Proof of personal automobile liability insurance. * Work boots with oil resistant soles are required (at employee's expense). * As a safety sensitive position, all Mechanics are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. * Must have a good driving record. Copy of DMV report may be requested. * Must have reliable transportation in order to adhere to service critical employee attendance requirements.
