Position Title CNC Operator
Accountable to Production Supervisor
Primary Objective This is a multifaceted document designed to list the requirements for the 2 levels of the CNC Operator positions and show the skill sets required for each position. Under the direction of the Production Supervisor, produce quality parts according to specifications utilizing and operating the following pieces of CNC equipment, Mills, Lathe, Water jets and/or 5-axis routers. The CNC Operator levels are responsible as noted below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
CNC Operator 2
•Strictly adheres to Company and Plant safety policies and procedures. (Level 1 & 2)
•Become proficient in measuring parts using calipers, protractors, tape measure and other gauges to determine key product dimensions (Level 1 & 2)
•Become proficient identifying job specific paperwork and have an understanding of how it relates to the process. (Level 1 & 2)
•Become proficient in tracking & recording accurate information on activity logs, key dimension sheets, etc. (Level 1 & 2)
•Perform a variety of housekeeping tasks, keeping immediate work area safe, organized and free from debris. (Level 1 & 2)
•Acquire an understanding of physical inspection criteria and notify lead or supervisor if defects are observed. (Level 1 & 2)
•Provide input to Supervisors, Leads, Development or others on different methods of producing existing parts within tolerances. (Level 1 & 2)
•Proven mechanical aptitude. (Level 1 & 2)
•Possess strong math and computer skills. (Level 1 & 2)
•Minimum of 6 months operating/training on related CNC equipment preferred—including programming, operation and tooling. (Level 1 & 2)
•Understanding of tooling requirements for the CNC machines. (Level 1 & 2)
•Ability to follow Customer Specifications and produce parts that meet the specifications. (Level 1 & 2)
•Possess the ability to read mechanical or applicable drawings. (Level 1 & 2)
•Must be able to verify program scanned matches print accurately. (Level 1 & 2)
•Simple edits to machine programming such as adding offsets, changing of tool heights, etc. (Level 1 & 2)
•Troubleshoot difficult setups and seek improvements with Supervisors, Development and/or Leadsto identify solution. (Level 1 & 2)Inspect CNC Tooling and fixtures to maintain maximum effectiveness and report issues to Supervisors, Development and/or Leads as needed. (Level 1 & 2)
•Understand and execute basic operations, set ups and techniques as related to shop order guidelines & VSW documentation. (Level 1 & 2)
•Become proficient at being able to access and use VSW’s from M-Files via company provided electronic tablets. (Level 1 & 2)
•Become proficient at the setup and operation of at least one CNC machine independently.
•Able and willing to train other level 2 CNC Operators through OJT to support growth. Consistently produce quality parts within required tolerances and goal times. (Level 1 & 2)
•Other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor. (Level 1 & 2)
CNC Operator 1
•Demonstrate advanced skills in reading complex drawings and specifications.
•Demonstrate proficiency in measuring parts using calipers, protractors, tape measure and other gauges to determine key dimensions.
•Demonstrate & execute basic operations, set ups and techniques as related to shop order guidelines & VSW documentation.
•Demonstrate proficiency in the access and use of VSW’s from M-files via company provided electronic tablets.
•Demonstrate advanced skills in the use of more specialized measuring equipment such as the FARO Arm.
•Able and willing to train level 2 & other level 1 CNC Operators through OJT to support growth.
•Demonstrate proficiency in the setup and operation of two or more CNC machines independently.
•Demonstrate proficiency identifying job specific paperwork and have an understanding of how it relates to the process.
•Demonstrate the understanding of physical inspection criteria.
•Demonstrate the ability to execute complex operations, set ups & techniques with little to no assistance as they pertain to the CNC work centers.
•Must possess the ability to ensure the part meets print, specifications and quality to sign off on First part approval and periodicals.
•Ability to oversee/perform rework on existing parts to insure parts are produced in tolerance and to drawing specifications.
Responsibility for Work of Others
•High School diploma or equivalent desired.
•Above average English communication skills, both verbal and written.
•Even tempered, friendly disposition and a positive can-do attitude.
•As noted above by level.
•Able to lift 60 lbs repetitively.
•Able to work up to 12 hour rotating shifts.
•Able to stand on concrete for extended periods of time.
•Ergonomics and position must be a priority as CNC equipment is in constant motion utilizing cutting tools.
•Be able to work in a production environment.
•Able to walk, stand and otherwise perform job functions on concrete floors with safety boots/shoes.
•Works in manufacturing environment occasionally being exposed to Phenolic dust, cooling fluids, odors, fumes and noise.
