The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care within the scope of their certification while assisting the provider as needed. Rooms patients, takes vitals, identifies chief complaint and gathers history. Recognizes and participates in clinical emergencies as needed. Provide basic patient education and distributes educational materials as appropriate. Instructs patient for exam, based on physician's preference. Perform necessary therapeutic/other injections for patients as instructed by provider. Processes requests for patient medication refills as defined in refill protocol. Explains discharge or follow-up instructions. Cleans and prepares room for next patients and procedures, i.e. discards trash and puts away supplies. Continuously employs infection control and blood borne pathogen standards. Removes staples/stitches, if applicable. Assist providers as requested. Maintains awareness of changes in protocols/procedures of the department Maintains productivity and clinical flow efficiently during working hours.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School graduate or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required.
Experience: One year experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Must be a certified Medical Assistant in the state of Washington. Current BLS required.
