Columbia Basin College ("CBC" or the "College") seeks a Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioner (HVAC) Technician who will be responsible for HVAC systems and all related equipment for all CBC buildings and facilities. This position is also responsible for skilled work in diagnostic testing, repair, and maintenance of HVAC and chilled/hot water distribution systems. This position reports to the Maintenance Specialist 4.

Install, maintain, diagnose and repair air handlers, air flow dampers, V belts, sheaves, pulleys and bearings; maintain and repair commercial refrigeration equipment used in air conditioning, ventilation and chilled water systems;
Inspect, maintain and repair plumbing, heating, water, cooling and refrigeration systems;
Analyze and maintain control systems that include electrical, electronic and pneumatic sensors and actuators; lay out, fabricate and install mechanical, pneumatic, electrical and electronic temperature and humidity controls for heating and ventilation systems; repair relays, timers, meters and switches with local or remote computer control;
Operate and maintain fluid and electronic testing and measuring instruments, such as manometers, air flow and liquid flow meters, volt meters, ammeters and potentiometers;
Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner; fabricate material and equipment in workshops; use tools such as drill presses, grinders, bandsaws, hand drills, testers, welding equipment, soldering guns and specialized apparatus; use acetylene welding and burning equipment; maintain equipment in good working condition;
Operate DCM Automated Logic Control System;
Monitor and adjust heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems;
Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;
Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;
Read and interpret blueprints;
May assist, coordinate and/or work with other trades and crafts journey personnel; and
Perform other duties as assigned.
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in refrigeration, steamfitter trades or in heating, ventilation and air conditioning;
Completion of a vocational training certificate from an accredited institution;
Three (3) years of applicable experience in refrigeration or steamfitter trades or a combination of the two (Vocational or trade school training as a steamfitter or refrigeration mechanic will substitute, year for year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years);
Possession of a valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one before date of hire.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position is a twelve (12) month, full-time, overtime-eligible, represented, classified staff position. There will be an orientation/ training period lasting no more than two (2) months. The work hours during the training period will be Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The schedule for this position after the training period will be Tuesday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, must be available to work a flexible schedule when prior notice is given by the College. This position is available immediately.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including frequent traveling between buildings on campus and driving employer vehicles off and around campus. Duties involve physical strength, agility and endurance to bend/reach, lift, pull or push objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as standard office equipment, forklift, pallet jack, hand cart, etc. as well as mobile technology such as smart phones with specialized software and systems for mail and package delivery.
Work environment is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings that include some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require following basic safety and driving precautions. Interruptions occur on a regular basis. Moderate exposure to adverse weather conditions and unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust and/or uneven surfaces, while making deliveries throughout campus and to external delivery services.
