The Opportunity
The Eastern Region Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) shop is seeking an energetic and hard-working individual to fill an Equipment Technician Lead position in our Spokane shop. In this role, you will serve as a Fuel Specialist and manage the day-to-day operations needed to repair, test, and maintain Eastern Region refueling stations and fuel sites, along with their associated equipment including tank monitoring and fuel issuing equipment. The Spokane TEF Shop services a wide array of equipment for a large area covering multiple counties. We are seeking a responsible, detailed orientated, timely, and safety minded team player to fill this position.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Fuel Specialist will:
•Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain 23 fuel dispensing sites and fuel tanks.
•Perform annual as well as emergent fuel system cleaning of the WSDOT re-fueling stations.
•Monitor the Regional re-fueling infrastructure Tanks Level System (TLS) for proper operation and staying within operating parameters.
•Read and interpret engineering drawing, plans, and blueprints.
•Perform and lead equipment techs in preventive maintenance and repair, at a journey-level, in the Spokane Main Shop and the field.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair all vehicle systems such as electrical systems, brake systems, steering and suspension systems, hydraulic systems, and cooling systems.
•Operate shop equipment such as: welders, drill press, grinder, press, hoist, air tools, forklifts, saws, computerized diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and jacks for the purpose of repairing equipment, designing and fabricating one parts or accessories.
•Maintain and repair the Keller Ferry as needed.
•Proficiently utilize M5/Fleet Equipment Management System for various shop management, with appropriate information for providing dependable fleet performance data & cost information needed for fleet analysis.
•Organize and clean shop, parts rooms, shop parking areas & yard on a regular basis; ensuring all areas are safe and orderly.

To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
•A high school diploma, GED certificate, or equivalent.
•Three years of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment OR journey level standing as a heavy equipment mechanic, demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship, OR by journey-level standing as recognized by a labor union.
•Experience using M5 Fleet Equipment Management software or equivalent Electronic Maintenance Management System.
•Experience operating power and hand shop tools/equipment.
•Demonstrated effectiveness to communicate professionally both orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
•Experience providing outstanding customer service.
•Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
•Experience working independently to prioritize workload and handle multiple assignments.
•Experience utilizing computer software, such as MS Excel, Access, and Word.
•Ability to respond to emergency callouts 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
•Ability to relocate tools, equipment, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds from one location to another in safe manner.
•Ability to wear PPE appropriate to position.
•Must be able to respond within 1 hour of an after-hours call.
•A valid driver’s license, with the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), with “N” and Air Brake endorsements, no automatic transmission restriction and DOT Medical Certification within 12 months of hire.
•ICC UST (Underground storage tank installation and repair) or ability to obtain in 1 year of hire.
•ICC AST (Aboveground storage tank installation and repair) or ability to obtain in 1 year of hire.
•Veeder Root UST Monitoring Systems Installation and Repair Levels 1, 2, and 3 or ability to obtain in 1 year of hire.
•Washington Class A UST Operator Training or ability to obtain in 1 year of hire.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
•Journey-level standing through the completion of an accredited automotive or equipment industry apprenticeship.
•Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (Automotive and/or Heavy truck).
•Associates of Applied Science (AA) degree or above in automotive or Heavy equipment technology or other equivalent accredited education in a similar or related field of study.
•Professional/Trade school certificates pertaining to light or heavy automotive, heavy equipment or fleet management.
•Experience leading and/or supervising crews, providing clear direction, and making good decisions in stressful conditions.
