Position Summary: Assisting Leadman and Mechanics to keep the plant operational.
Primary Responsibilities: (Must consider: 1) knowledge required; 2) problem solving; and 3) accountability.)
Assist A and B Mechanics with overhaul work and general maintenance.
There must be full cooperation with meeting Leadman requests to meet requirements of assigned duties.
Unplug lodged flow system of hops, powder and pellets.
Change filter socks, perform airlock changes, etc. and complete weekend maintenance.
Must have safety awareness for self and others.
Must have basic knowledge of operating forklift.
The primary duty of the maintenance helper is to assist the Leadman in keeping the plant operational during the term of his or her shift. Full cooperation between both Leadman and Maintenance Helper is expected. This generally covers any production interruptions caused by raw hops, foreign material lodged with the hops, powder and pellet in production or in the process of being packed. It excludes repair of electrical equipment and routing maintenance of such. Reversing a motor will be allowed as long as the Maintenance Helper A has been trained to do so.
In particular it includes such as:
Clean out bale crumbler and crumbler hopper due to excessive alpha accumulation or foreign material in hop bales or any other auger that needs cleaning.
Clean out of pneumatic conveying lines and related equipment after choke to resume production as soon as possible.
Clean sifter screens if required and ordered by the laboratory personnel. Change sifter screens if necessary due to breakage caused by hop materials.
Check on a routine basis the free-flowing and continuous transportation of hops and hop material in spoutings, hoppers and pneumatic and conveying equipment in order to prevent possible chokes.
Report any equipment failure or apparent malfunction and actions taken to resolve the problem to the Maintenance Department. Should such repair be out of the Maintenance Helper’s experience or range of duties, call the head mechanic, who is on emergency duty at all times.
Clean and/or change filter tubes and filter socks. Clean out and/or change airlocks.
Assist the A-Mechanic and/or B-Mechanic on duty to perform the usual maintenance and overhaul work and help in the general maintenance.
Weekend duties are to be done on Sunday while the head mechanic is on duty, unless other arrangements are made by the Plant Supervisor or Plant Manager.
Assist with clean-up duties.
Such other duties as may be assigned in accordance with Company needs and requirements.
Conditions of Employment:
1. Work a scheduled 40 hour work week.
2. Flexibility to work any shift requested and overtime if necessary. Hours worked in excess of 8 per day or 40 per week will be paid as overtime per the current union agreement.
3. Be able to lift, twist, bend, reach, climb ladders and lift 50 pounds.
4. Have adequate vision and hearing, with or without corrective lenses or aids.
5. Must comply with all John I. Haas, Inc. policies and procedures.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills required of the Position)
Other production line experience with other work stations.
Have basic forklift skills.
Be able to follow directions from supervisors and follow rules and procedures without question.
