Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state. In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
WSDOT Tunnel’s Maintenance Department is seeking a safety-minded maintenance profession to lead road maintenance work on state highways and tunnels within the Seattle and Bellevue and south King County area. This position directs a crew that performs highway, tunnel, roadside, infrastructure, and right-of-way maintenance and repair tasks for specific subsections of state highway, including providing traffic control for pavement improvement projects. What to Expect
Due to the nature of this work, the Highway Maintenance Worker 3 must be able to work in an outdoor work environment in a variety of weather conditions, negotiates steep and uneven terrain, works at heights above 25 feet over land or water, work around in high traffic urban/suburban corridors, work in confined spaces, and able to climb ladders.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Highway Maintenance Worker 3 will:
Patrol and inspect specific sections of roadway in urban and suburban areas.
Manage and report inventory usage, highway section repair needs, right-or-way encroachment, and daily work activities.
Responds to work requests from internal and external customers.
Determines how work is to be safely performed with minimal impact to traveling public.
Assume Supervisor duties in their absence.
Assigns work tasks, equipment, and oversees job sites.
Performs snow and ice removal work using CDL trucks using snowplow and deicing equipment.
Trains employees in the safe and efficient operation of equipment, tools, and routine maintenance operations.
Operates class A, B, and/or C equipment, power tools, and performs manual labor.
Assists in assembling, installing and replacing signs, sign components, and signposts, using a variety of equipment and tools.
Designs and sets up large scale complex traffic control for all operations, including full road or Tunnel closures.
Acts as a first responder at accidents scenes, spills, or other emergency situations.
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
High school graduation or GED.
One (1) year experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker 2.
Three (3) years of highway maintenance, heavy equipment experience, experience setting up large scale complex traffic control or other related work experience.
Valid Washington State CDL Class A driver’s license with endorsement N with manual transmission and without air brakes restriction.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
Washington State Flagging Card.
Washington State Pesticide Applicator’s License.
Backflow Prevention Tester Certification.
Knowledge of AVL, HATS and NPDES programs.
Ability to lead lower-level employees in a crew setting.
This position works nights, Monday through Thursday 8:00pm – 6:30am.
The salary listed for this position includes a legislative approved premium for workers in King County and assignment pay.
