PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for providing support for the financial portion of the Finance Department. Position reconciles bank accounts and general ledger accounts; assists with month-end close and journal voucher process; maintains Sage fixed asset system, and prepares monthly reports and various financial documents.
This position reports to the Business Accountant and does not supervise staff. The position works closely with accounting and finance, information services, customer service, and various state departments for sales and tax-related items.

•Assist with the month-end close process. Perform monthly reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts. Conduct research and make correction journal entries for account discrepancies, prepare closing journal entries, and post accrual entries. Manage the month-end journal voucher process including uploading, scanning, and monitoring the journal voucher list.
•Prepare bank reconciliations by downloading bank information, running system reports, posting cleared checks, and making sure everything is posted to General Ledger. Reconcile checks issued versus checks cleared.
•Maintains Sage fixed asset system, which includes preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger fixed asset accounts, and preparation of depreciation schedules for budgeting purposes.
•Prepare monthly reports and other financial documents. Prepare monthly recycling reporting and maintain accurate reporting in GL. Prepare various financial documents, including property taxes, for compliance with regulations.
•Have regular attendance and work an appropriate number of hours to get the essential functions completed.
•Perform under the Working Conditions described below.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ENTRY:
•Principles and practices of basic accounting, debits/credits, income, and expenses.
•Office administrative and management practices and procedures, including record keeping and filing.
•Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
•Prepare clear, concise, and accurate correspondence, documents, reports, and other written materials.
•Gather, evaluate, and interpret information.
•Prepare and maintain a variety of records; organize, research, and maintain sensitive, confidential files.
•Identify, research, and analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and project consequences of proposed actions.
•Organize, set priorities, schedule assigned work; oversee multiple and rapidly changing priorities.
•Use computers and computer software including word processing and spreadsheets.
•Meet behaviors established in Tree Top’s performance management and development process.
EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION/LICENSES, AND TRAINING:
•A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field is preferred or a minimum of 3 years of experience in finance, accounting, or similar field in lieu of a degree.
•Constantly works in an office environment
•Frequently deals with highly confidential information
•Occasionally works under tight time constraints or with business activities of a seasonal/cyclical nature
•Occasionally works mandatory overtime
