Job Summary

The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Finance & Reporting Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general ledger accountability, financial reporting, as well as financial profitability analysis and other special projects as assigned. IHI Power Services provides accounting services for various entities, making multi-tasking skills essential as some entities will have a simultaneous month-end close.



Job Functions

Takes ownership of reporting costs, productivity, margins and expenditures
Analyzes complex financial reports and records, including financial statements and other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards defined within the department.
Preparation and review of month-end journal entries for various entities.
Prepare monthly financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information.
Responsible for general ledger reconciliations and P&L analysis.
Works with the CFO on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization.
Makes recommendations based on analysis and status of reserves, assets and expenditures.
Reviews records of accounts to ensure accuracy.
Develops systems for the maintenance of financial records, making use of current technologies.
Creates forms and manuals for accounting and bookkeeping personnel.
Preparing and managing of labor budgets & forecasts for various projects/plants.
Work closely with internal and external auditors (Financial and Workers Comp Audits)
Keeping up to date with current GAAP and other regulations and making recommendation on company accounting polices
Contributes to department and organization special projects as assigned
Backup other department personnel as needed, during planned and unplanned absences
Assist in managing and mentoring Junior Accountant, Accountant. Accounts Payable Specialist and Accounts Receivable Specialist
Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

A Bachelor’s degree in Finance/ Accounting.
At least 5 years of experience in a similar accounting/ finance capacity required.
In-depth understanding of accounting principles and practices in order to perform complex accounting activities and financial analyses
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
CPA or other professional certifications and utility specific training desired.

Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
Experience with complex billing, revenue recognition and Year end/interim financial audits
Ability to deliver reasonable conclusions and recommendations using available information
Basic data entry/computer skills
Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all the business challenges
Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel
Accounting system knowledge, preferably with Great Plains
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and in a team environment.

This job operates in a clerical, office setting.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
