IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Master I&C Technician with the Springdale Organization based out of Springdale, Pa. Located North East out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the facility consists of two LM 6000 simple cycle peaking units and a combined cycle 2 x 1 with two Siemens 501F Gas Turbines combined with a Siemens Steam Turbine, with a 590 MW capacity. The Master I & C role also supports three additional sites, which consists of two LM6000 simple cycle peaking units at each site.

Job Summary

The IC&E Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily technical activities in instrumentation and control, electrical, CEM and computer systems. Also provides the technical services needed to support the reliable and continued operation of the plant.

The Master I&C Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision performing duties independently with only general direction given. The Master I&C Technician encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. Decisions are made within prescribed operating guidelines and procedures.

The Master I&C Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Master I&C Technician must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Master I&C Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.

Job Functions

Assist in start-up, shutdown and normal operations of power plant systems.
Operate major auxiliary apparatus such as: air compressors; gas compressors, chillers and cooling systems.
Perform tests, inspections, repairs, and adjustments to equipment and instrumentation to achieve proper operating conditions.
Prepares and oversees LOTO packages
Operate continuous Emissions Monitoring equipment.
Maintain logs as assigned.
Maintains all plant IC&E equipment to assure optimal production
Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and takes corrective measures.
Complete other tasks as required by the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
Plans, coordinates and executes IC&E related preventative, scheduled and forced outages activities to assure minimum down time and optimal plant operation.
Oversee, Coordinate, and direct contractors.
Maintains various databases and effectively uses standard software packages.

Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
Minimum of two years of experience in Power Plant Operations and Maintenance.
Experience in operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical and instrument systems required.
Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable.
Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls desirable.
Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry desirable.
Must successfully complete a plant operator's knowledge examination.
Experience working with control system desired. (T3000, Ovation, AB, Mark 6).
Proficient with Microsoft Office-Outlook, Word, Excel.

Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
Basic data entry/computer skills.
Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.

Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
Includes working indoors and outdoors.
Some travel may be necessary, with overnight stays possible.
