There is one position with Yakima County, County Roads Department - Maintenance Division Yakima Shop. This position Operates single and tandem axle dump trucks and water trucks for applying water to roads, snow removal, sanding and hauling gravel and other materials. Performs routine, preventative maintenance on equipment. Operates other equipment as needed such as roadside mowers, front end loaders and tractor trailers.
This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)
Operates the following pieces of equipment: Single and tandem axle dump trucks and water trucks. Activities include snow removal; sanding roads; watering gravel roads; hauling dirt, gravel, sand, asphalt and other materials.
Operates a variety of other equipment including: roadside mowers, front end loaders, lowboy tractor-trailer and brush chippers. Performs basic preventative maintenance and service of equipment.
Performs traffic control operations and implements workzone safety precautions as a flagger on County roads. Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience & Training: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and four years equipment operation, road maintenance and/or construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. (Note: Applicants with equivalent education and or experience must provide a detailed explanation.)
Washington State Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes, Tanker. (Must list that you currently hold a Class A CDL License on the Yakima County application to qualify for the position).
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Must provide consent for queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations (49 CFR Part 382).
This position is within the Local #1 Bargaining Unit.
Equipment Used: Single axle dump truck; tandem axle dump truck; automobile; pick-up truck; water truck; mowers, front-end loaders, lowboy tractor-trailer, brush chipper, common hand tools and vehicle maintenance tools.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Work is performed in and around County roadways and requires: driving, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, mobility, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Rated as Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Knowledge of: road maintenance and construction techniques and standards; basic equipment maintenance; equipment and tools used in road and bridge maintenance; and workzone safety precautions.
Skill in: operating water trucks, dump trucks, front end loaders, backhoes and other common road maintenance equipment; performing preventive maintenance on equipment; applying traffic control techniques; using two-way radios and other communications devices; applying customer service techniques; establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers; communication, both oral and written, sufficient to receive direction and follow direction.
