SUMMARY Works on plant steam, refrigeration, HVAC, water and other plant equipment by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned.)
Trains and assists Level II Technician. Repair of hydraulic, pneumatic equipment, plant machinery, and equipment, maintain compressor system. Assists workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment. Helps maintenance engaged in dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial machinery. Repair and maintain the boiler, boiler chemical balance and injection system. Maintain and troubleshoot soft water to boiler, maintain and troubleshoot plant sodium hyperchlorite injection system, maintain and troubleshoot hot water system to plant, repair and maintain all industrial refrigeration systems to plant including but not limited to heating ventilating and air conditioning equipment, able to operate refrigeration evacuation units, using proper refrigerant usage practices. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders. Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of refrigeration boiler and air systems. Maintains time and preventive maintenance records. Confers with supervisors to coordinate activities, repairs and scheduled downtime. Writes requisitions, Work Orders, and maintains supply of spare parts. Works with departmental personnel to upgrade the work order system.
Keeps work area clean and orderly. May be assigned some of the duties of the Maintenance mechanics in their absence. Does other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet progression requirements and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training in one of the construction trades; or equivalent combination of education and experience (5-10 years of similar nature). License for industrial refrigeration and licensed if proper refrigerant usage and E.P.A. certification.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to layout new equipment from plants, fabricate food processing machinery, operate machine tools, metal fabricating equipment, welder, and use hand tools of the mechanics trade. Work with limited supervision.

EQUIPMENT USED Must be able to specifically use the following tools and equipment: Electric and acetylene welders, drill press, sheet metal brake, hydraulic tools and all types of mechanic hand tools, gauges equipment; must have a basic set of mechanics hand tools relative to the plant operation and other tools common to the refrigeration trade, halide torch, electronics sniffers and evacuation equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Physical stature and condition to permit periodic heavy exertion and awkward, fatiguing working positions. Should be agile and able to lift 120 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING Company required PPE.

COMMENTS Personal hygiene must meet company and government sanitation requirements. Abide by safety rules as outlined in company policies and procedures.
