Welder / Fabricator / Assembly
Classification: Non-exempt
Reports to: Shop Foreman
Job Summary: Weld together various parts and sub-assemblies, assemble various components in a factory environment per written drawings, specifications and/or instructions.
Essential Functions:
Assemble, tack, and weld metal parts and components together using primarily MIG welding process.
Read and interpret shop drawings, work orders, and BOM's (bill of materials) to assemble and weld per specifications.
Read and understand weld symbols.
Position and secure work piece, using hoist, crane, forklift, or hand tools.
Operate and maintain acetylene welding/cutting torch and MIG welding equipment
Able to operate safely: grinders, drills, mag-drills, impact wrenches and various other hand tools in daily functions
Perform routine safety inspections of equipment and notify supervisor of any problems.
Follow all safety procedures when lifting, pushing, and pulling material and components
Adhere to all safety procedures and PPE requirements.
Qualifications:
Good general mechanical aptitude, ability to use basic hand tools;
Working knowledge of machines and understanding of the manufacturing process
Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of manufacturing equipment including
MIG welder, hand plasma cutter, oxy acetylene torch, hand-held grinder, and overhead crane. Familiarity with design and use of jigs and fixtures.
Must be able to perform basic normal math calculations easily.
Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, welding diagrams, welding symbols, specifications, shop orders, BOM, time-sheets, and written instructions.
Must furnish personal welding helmet and hand tools.
Must be able to speak, read and write in English
A weld test will be required prior to employment
Operate forklift (forklift certification provided)
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the individual is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel. The individual is also required to talk and listen. The individual is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit. The individual must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 lbs.
Work Environment: The individual is often exposed to fumes, arc flash, moving mechanical parts, elevated work area and related potential hazards. The job is performed in an area with exposure to hot and cold weather conditions and a noise level of moderate to loud.
Education / Experience: High school diploma or equivalent GED. Vocational school training or equivalent experience.
