This is a 12-month position with full-time appointment to the Facilities & Safety Department. This position will report to the Director of Facilities & Safety.
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities & Safety, a Facilities & Safety Compliance Coordinator will coordinate, develop, and maintain procedures, records, inspections, training, and consultation to ensure that campus facilities, work procedures, and department protocols comply with the laws, rules, policies, and procedures that regulate one of several safety compliance specialties. Specialties include but are not limited to facility compliance, hazard communication, air quality, fire safety, driving safety, working conditions, chemical safety, and hazardous waste disposal.
The ability to interact with staff, faculty, and students in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining flexible, proactive, and efficient is crucial to this role. Working effectively and collaboratively in a team environment is a must. Working conditions are as follows:
Duties are performed in a school campus and office environment. Working indoors and outdoors is required. When working outdoors, may be subject to inclement weather. The work may be strenuous at times and may include lifting heavy objects, and standing, stooping, and kneeling for long periods.
This is a non-exempt, full-time, regular position. Overtime may be required as necessary.

Associate’s degree or certificate of completion from an accredited career college in a related program; or a combination of education and equivalent experience.
Documented experience with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel, and computerized database programs.
Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
Must be willing to consent to a drug test.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Communicate effectively and interface with staff, faculty, students, and vendors in a professional and approachable manner.
Develop and maintain health and safety policies, best-practices, procedures, and checklists to ensure campus compliance with OSHA, L&I, state and local laws, and other regulatory agency requirements. Create safety programs specific to each department’s trade.
Conduct on and off-campus safety inspections. Document findings, research code, propose solutions, implement approved solutions, and maintain appropriate records.
Observe and evaluate department and program processes to identify and reduce safety hazards and injuries. Establish and enforce personal protective equipment guidelines.
Maintain online Safety Data Sheet database. Develop and provide training to all employees on proper chemical handling and exposure control methods.
Develop and maintain an Occupational Health and Safety Manual. Educate employees in all areas relevant to their responsibilities.
Identify, develop, and implement employer required health and safety training for all employees and students and maintain training records.
Identify opportunities for continuous safety improvements and assist the Director of Facilities & Safety in the implementation.
Process accident reports, perform accident investigations, document findings, initiate corrections, and maintain records.
Process student accident insurance claim forms and maintain records.
Communicate with external agencies such as local authorities and specialist groups on health and safety issues or questions to ensure compliance.
Coordinate with local vendors to ensure first aid kits, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and Automated External Defibrillators are serviced and in working order.
Maintain an active campus safety committee with department representatives and elected officers, and conduct monthly safety meetings in accordance with OSHA, L&I and other regulatory agency requirements.
Prepare supplemental documents, record minutes, and maintain records for campus safety meetings.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to establish and conduct effective department safety meetings and to create a culture of safety, prevention, and awareness.
Create and maintain a campus safety resource library that is relevant and accessible to all programs and departments on campus. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to ensure library is utilized effectively.
Research and stay ahead of industry and regulatory changes that will impact campus operations.
Develop hazardous waste handling and disposal procedures to ensure compliance with Department of Ecology. Record hazardous waste accumulation on an on-going basis in preparation for annual report.
Schedule and conduct routine inspections and testing for elevators, fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire code compliance, backflows, pressurized vessels, and boilers with outside vendors; maintain documentation to remain in compliance.
Maintain posted evacuation routes, safety and health related signage, and employee right-to-know notices.
Medium to heavy work requiring prolonged or repeated use of hands and wrists, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional lifting and carrying of 30lbs.
Other duties as assigned.
