The City of Longview is working to develop a Utility/Maintenance Worker Eligibility List for current and future vacancies. We are hiring for positions in three departmetnts. The positions are: Utility Systems Operator III, Public Works Maintenance Technician III , and Park Maintenance Technician III. Applicants remaining on the list after these positions are filled will be contacted when additional vacancies occur later in the Utilities, Public Works Maintenance and Parks Maintenance departments.

Top qualified candidates who meet minimum requirements will be subject to additional evaluation including; a written exam and an interview.
This position is represented by the EBA. Refer to the City's website www.mylongview.com to view the current labor agreement. City employees shall reside within a thirty (30) minute driving response time under normal driving conditions to ensure emergency response.
Incumbents will be subject to passing a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and criminal background check.
Essential Job Duties:
Position Overview (this is not an inclusive list of all duties and responsibilities):
Utility Systems Operator III - Responsible for performing semi-skilled sewer and water utility operations and maintenance tasks that could include, but are not limited to: operating dump trucks and construction tools and equipment, including obtaining training and experience on excavators, back-hoes, and other heavy equipment; changing meters; operating, cleaning, and repairing sewer and water lines and pump stations; locating utilities; conducting water quality tests; repairing and replacing valves and hydrants. The Utility Systems Operator III is the first level and does not operate heavy equipment except as a training function. $23.47 - $30.10 per hour.
Public Works Maintenance Technician III (Street and Stormwater Maintenance) - Responsible for performing entry-level to skilled street and drainage maintenance duties that could include: manual labor; operating heavy construction equipment such as dump trucks, excavators, sweepers, vacuum/jetting trucks, paving and pavement maintenance equipment, loaders, and back-hoes; maintaining right-of-ways; constructing asphalt, concrete, steel, and wooden transportation and drainage facilities; inspecting and maintaining storm water systems; applying herbicides and sealants; responding to floods; and cleaning streets of leaves and snow. May work early morning or night shift if assigned; responds to emergencies at all hours. The Public Works Maintenance Technician III is the entry level position and does not review the work of other Technicians. $22.93 - $29.41 per hour.
Parks Maintenance Technician III - Responsible for performing minor-skilled and unskilled structural maintenance, construction, landscape work, and repair at park and city facilities; and to perform related work as required. Performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties in park areas, landscapes, and/or other related areas, including: mowing and edging lawns; watering; weeding; pruning trees, shrubs, and hedges; and/or, performing other related activities. $22.93- $29.41 per hour.
Utility Systems Operator III requirements: High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience constructing, installing, operating, or maintaining drinking water distribution, wastewater collection, or other underground utility pipelines, conduit, facilities, or equipment. Licensing Requirements: WDS Certification (or obtain within 12 months), Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake Restriction removed (or obtain within 6 months or as scheduled); (Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred), Class A Commercial Driver's License with Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements as assigned, First Aid/CPR Certification (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Flagging Card (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Forklift Operator License (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Confined Space Training (or obtain within six (6) months or as scheduled), Trenching, Shoring, and Excavating Training (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled).
Public Works Maintenance Technician III requirements: High School Diploma or GED; and 1-2 years of general construction experience. Licensing Requirements:Class B Commercial Driver's License (or obtain within 6 months or as scheduled), First Aid/CPR Certification (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Traffic Control Flagging Certification (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Forklift Operator Certification (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Confined Space Training (or obtain within six (6) months or as scheduled), Trenching, Shoring, and Excavating Training (or obtain within 90 days or as scheduled), Herbicide Application License as assigned, Class A Commercial Driver's License as assigned, Commercial Driver's License Air Brakes and Tanker Endorsements as assigned.
Parks Maintenance Technician III requirements: Up to 1 year of specialized or technical training beyond high school in construction, or related field; and 1-2 years of general construction, maintenance, or landscaping experience. Heavy equipment experience preferred. Licensing requirements; First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain), Traffic Control Flagging certification (or ability to obtain), Class B Commercial Driver's License (as assigned)
