POSITION TITLE: Skilled Craftsman II
The job of a Skilled Craftsman II was established for the purpose/s of maintaining facilities for staff and the public in safe operating condition: performing journey level skilled maintenance to resolve immediate operational and/or safety concerns and providing for preventative maintenance.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: the Primary functions of this skilled maintenance position apply to HVAC systems with some plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
Assists other personnel as may be required for ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
Completes employer required training for purpose of maintaining current knowledge regarding specific job and/or district, state and federal rules, regulations, policies and procedures and laws.
Presents information (e.g. staff, new employee orientation, trainings) for providing information and knowledge related to the District’s safety protocols.
Complete general maintenance work (e.g. roof, welding, cabinetry ceiling, carpentry, electrical, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, painting, grounds, irrigation etc.) for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe condition enabling full educational use of facilities all times.
Attends meetings, trainings, in-services, etc., for the purpose of maintaining skills, receiving and conveying information on new and improved procedures, as well as complying with District requirements.
Inspects facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
Installs HVAC and refrigeration systems and components (e.g. walk-in oven, kiln ovens (art room) heating ducts, dampers, hot water heaters, steam/boilers, filters, etc.) for providing comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities.
Maintains tools and equipment for ensuring the availability of items in safe operating condition.
Monitors control panels and thermostats of all systems for maintaining standard working temperatures with greatest energy efficiency.
Performs journey level skilled maintenance primarily related to HVAC and refrigeration for the purpose of resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns and providing for preventative maintenance.
Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
Procures equipment, supplies, and materials (e.g. with prior approval of supervisor) for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase for maintaining the inventory of district owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.
Repairs various items, systems and/or components for ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
Responds to emergency situations as may be required, and with notice is on 24-hour call for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.
Estimates costs (e.g. HVAC and refrigeration maintenance and/or develop project costs in terms of labor and material) for the purpose of ensuring that district expenses are allocated effectively and within Budgetary guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Minimum Qualification:
SKILLS: are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating equipment used in building maintenance; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE: is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; and methods, techniques, materials used in building maintenance; and safety and codes requirements of Federal, State and local District guidelines.
ABILITY: is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; and may be required with notice to be on 24 hour call.
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 85% walking, and 5% standing. The job is perform under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The current opening will be a classified, represented position for a total of 40 hours per week, year-round, with holidays, vacation, sick leave, and salary in accordance with the Ellensburg School District Public School Employee agreement.
